You kids- no sense of history and reality. Before we had the AA, basketball was played in the Fieldhouse. The floor was dirt, there was a raised court "stage". Seating ran about 5-6,000. Johnny Cash sold the place out in '72.
The basketball team was packing the place. Linda Ronstadt, Marshal Tucker, and even ZZ Top filled the place regularly at the height of their popularity.
When the AA was built, the demand for basketball tickets was regularly over 10,000. Between the need for a larger capacity events venue and a home for Wyoming basketball, it was decided to build an arena that would be a hub of civic activity AND pride.
