I think this break for the team is going to pay huge dividends for us. one side to the coin is that a team can come out stagnant after a "bye" week. this is a fairly common practice, however it usually happens to teams that have weak coaching staffs.

sorry to cross over to football here, but if you look at the steelers/broncos coaching staffs... these two teams historically come out of bye firing on all cylinders. good coaches now how to maximize the extra practice days while resting and healing wounds.

I believe in shyatt, and can see good coaching. I don't think we come out flatt. we weren't streaking before the break. we were simply playing good ball. its not like we had come off a two week hot shooting period.

additionally, princton style offenses are kinda like the triple option. you need a little extra time coaching defensive positioning to really iron out the kinks.

if we had to play denver coming of a three day turnaround... id be scared shitless.

cant wait to listen to the game. i bet grabua hits the floor in limited minutes (although not "that" limited). i bet he gets around 20 minutes.

again, I preach about our bigs. I see a disparing advantage for us in this game. it really all comes down to how our defense can switch and cover the princton. I believe we are in the top ten nationally at defensive 2-point fieldgoal %. but we are not so good in perimeter 3 point %.

if denver has one of those "lights-out" three point shooting nights, then this will be a nail-biter.

My guess... we beat denver with breathing room. I think we get to the double bonus with 5-6 minutes left in the second half. most likely we shoot alot of free-throws tomorrow.

and...

I think we see something from luke tonight. historically, the fresher his legs, the better he shoots. with denver stuggling inside with our bigs, I think luke has the potential to be exceptional... if nothing else, he will be consistent and score 15-20 points tonight.

I saw several posts that mentioned tonight. The game is tomorrow the 18th correct?

Ok SMU just got destroyed by a 2-7 team. We will be 13-0 when Boise St. comes to town.

It's Basketball anyone can beat anyone else still can't overlook them!

Oh no worries about me overlooking them, I don't play for the team ;)

URI hit 10 3's in that game, so basically same fate we would have suffered against ISU had we not played properly in the 2nd half.

I agree. I love the timing of the break. Our kids got to focus on their academics. Fresh legs never hurts, especially with Riley putting his wheel back on. Extra coaching time is benefitial to prepare for the Princeton offense.

It will be interesting to see how DU can handle our athleticism. We have one of the most athletic posts in the country. Washington, Nance, and Cooke is a tough match-up. They'll have to double Washington and Nance. Both of them are good passers. They're even good post to post passers. We've got three guys that will bury a three consistently. Gilmore, Grabau, and Martinez will hurt you if left open.

The last few games we've had stretches where we'll fast break in spurts. Defensive intensity leads to fast break basketball. DU might have a hard time guarding the Pokes when we're running. The Pioneers are well coached and will get back on defense. The problem is: you can't coach how to defend Josh Adams, Larry Nance, and Derek Cooke on the fast break. The only thing you can tell them is to foul hard. If you give up a dunk to one of those guys on the break, you are forced to burn a time-out. They make the AA go nuts.

DU has taken advantage of past Pokes teams because of our poor free throw shooting. In recent years DU will just send our guys to the free throw stripe. They can't get away with that this year.

Hopefully the rust won't be a factor. I don't expect it to be. Defense doesn't take a day off.

One more day. Go Pokes!!

aaargh....10 days of awesome Dec. weather and tonight they're calling for slippery slideing on the Summitt tonight....we'll give it a go, I see good rates on rooms at the Ramada in case...lol
