As has been discussed, likely not happening regardless of record due to finances. I’d take 6-6 and Burman riding into sunset, hiring new AD and firing Sawvel next year after 2-4 start

That is more likely than Iwant to believe. I am a realist . His contract is too expensive to buyout and until Burman is gone we won't be able to do a proper search.

Yep.... We make a Bowl, he keeps his job... NIU, AF, UTEP, UCONN are all beatable

But Northern Illinois and UTEP are so bad so that seems unlikely.

Sawful probably stays whether it’s 3-9 or 4-8.
Sawful is very likely to stay at 5-7 since it would be his best yet.
Anything 6-6 or better he definitely stays.
There is no doubt the new MWC is very weak.

yes, 6-6 or 5-7 seems likely. The strategy of moving down with a weak schedule pays dividends and $1.25 million a year. I would say the odds Burman gets another couple of years are about 3 to 1. WIthout some sort of major change Sawvel still has 2 years. They can say they are "building this together." The BOT is so lost they will buy it.

The way I am seeing this from my balcony on a bay in Bermuda on Saturday October 10:
Wyoming under Sawful needs to get to nothing less than 6-6 and obtain a MWC bowl game. I will go most likely because I am a Poke fan first and foremost.

’s the “Go Cowboys” side of me wants to see this season turn into a winner or no less than 6-6. It’s a litmus test of success in this day and age. Play against a rather irrelevant team in an irrelevant bowl and win an irrelevant 7th game and it will help me to be a bit less feisty feeling.Use that success to get the next to last recruit instead of the recruits nobody else is interested in. Just please, pretty please, have the QB spot enhanced in a way not seen since 2016. Not saying it has to be equal to 2016, but it needs to have some zest to the position.
I truly appreciate Hughes giving his best effort. I didn’t see the game but have read he put forth an effort. I respect that. I also respect the defense holding an opponent to 13 on the road. Wyoming has rarely held any opponents to a low score like 13 - especially in MWC play.
As much as I am a proponent of Sawful and Burman going away, I realize change happens slowly in Wyoming and that is why I had to leave decades ago in pursuit of a career that paid which provided for my family without living on food stamps.
I’m just so hungry to be able to puff my chest out and proclaim being a badass Cowboy from Wyoming!!!
Glad to get the road win. The only option now is to keep getting wins. I MEAN IT!!!!!

I think sawvel is safe for next season regardless at this point because of his guaranteed contract.
So how's this for a scenario instead...
We win the next 2 and are sitting at 5-3 (4-1) going into UNLV. We somehow manage to win that and beat UTEP and then have a game against New Mexico with the conference championship appearance on the line. Burman still retires / is not extended on his contract. Regardless of how many wins we get sawvel is also not extended due to how weak the schedule is. We actually end the year with some respectability but don't shoot ourselves in the foot by extending any contracts and the new ad keeps sawvel on a super short leash next year when the buyout becomes something we are more likely to handle.

I used to dream of seasons happening like this. As much as I would like it to happen I’m in this mode:
NIU - win 4
AFA - loss 4
@UNLV - loss 5
@UTEP - win 5
UNM - loss 6
UConn - either 6-6 or 5-7
I don’t think our defense can contain AFA, UNLV and UNM enough to offset the anemic ability to score points by our offense.
UConn and AFA are the best chances being home games to get the surprise win. UConn might have the weaker defense and being the last game of the season with a long trip to Laramie it might play into the Pokes favor. But, UConn might be already bowl eligible or needing to win to get #6. It could factor in.
I don’t see it as Burman is the main issue. He’s gone when contract is up. He’s in love with the ex-Cheyenne mayor and wants t settle with full time whoopie .That leaves us
with sawful and he’s the major problem because he’s in over his head, he doesn’t know what he’s doing. This program will never advance beyond the joke stage. If we get a new coach and doesn’t rehire baby bald as DC, then they guy who started this train to nowhere will disappear from the sideline and we can be rid of this North Dakota connection.
