President Reeves - Time to Fire Tom Burman

The reality is that a lot of employees love to talk about accountability and pay for performance until the nut cutting starts.

What happened to this level of expectation (from the RS Rocket Miner when TB hired Sawful)?:

Burman didn’t hesitate when asked about what his message was to his new head football coach Wednesday.

“Win a championship,” Burman said. “Do it with the right kind of people and in the right way, but let’s go win a championship.”

and

“We just have to find a way to move the needle slightly higher and get back into that Mountain West Conference championship game,” Burman said. “After thinking about it and visiting with coach Sawvel and kind of working my way through this, it was clear to me that the fastest way to do that was right here internally, because we had the best coach we could hire with Jay.

“To me, it was a relatively easy decision, but one I spent weeks pondering over. I’m excited with where we are, and I’m excited to win a bowl game and go from there.”

One other nugget:

“It’s like a (4x400) relay. (Bohl) ran the first three laps of it, and he’s handing me a baton with a couple hundred meters to go,” Sawvel said. “Everything’s in place for us to take steps and have great success and continue to build on what’s here. Now, we’ve got to do that.”

Everything is in place...so there is no excuse for what we are seeing right now. None.

Got a response to my email:
Greg,

Thank you for reaching out for sharing some of your UW story. You are a remarkable example of how someone with grit and passion can succeed not only at UW but long after leaving Laramie.

I appreciate you articulating your concerns so thoughtfully and I won't pretend this season has gone the way any of us hoped. I hear your frustration, and I share the expectation that our teams compete, and compete hard. I take that seriously, and I am paying close attention.

If you decide to come to Laramie for the UConn game – and I hope you will – it would be my honor to meet you and your wife and host you in my suite in the Wildcatter. Let me know.

Sincerely,

Shane

Burman has made some bad hires, no doubt. He has also made some good ones. I think hiring Craig Bohl essentially put UW football back on the map with JA. We've never had this kind of exposure. Sundance Wicks is looking like an awesome hire. Shyatt and Linder were good hires, both resulted in NCAA trips.

All that said, I do think it's time to move on. But let's let this play out. Let Burman retire, then take care of the football coach situation. I think President/General Reeves is the right guy to get us back on track, but it takes time. And if a miracle happens and the football team starts winning this year, then consider that. I don't think that is going to happen, but an interim coach isn't likely to increase those chances.

Welcome to the board Tom! We know everyone loves Bohl for his one good season...checks notes.....10 years ago

And this is the problem with UW sports. Apathy for Burman. Nevermind the fact that we are dead last in conference titles, have not competed for conference championships, and have been left behind by our rivals. Not too mention the lack of foresight into the impending NIL issues when it was obvious to everyone that we needed to be creative to find monies for our athletes to remain competitive. Instead Burman turned a blind eye and ignored NIL essentailly, setting us back years in trying to catch up with our conference mates. Yes, lets let him retire and then we can address the football situation. F me. SMH.

essentially we are a poor, poor, poor mans clemson.. except without the past success

Thanks for sharing. I hope you take him up on that offer and would love to hear about your experience if you do!

Honestly, I appreciate the response. Hanging out in the wildcatter isn’t so much my style, though I genuinely appreciate the response.

I’d rather sit in the nosebleeds with rabid fans in the freezing cold. To me, Wyoming football isn't about sitting in the nice, fancy area eating good food. I can do that in Atlanta.

All I want is for us to be competiitve.

You could at least go in there, grab a free beer and then go back to the cold bleachers! ha 😂
