CSU game thread

They expect it because the overwhelming majority of the idiots in this state continue, and likely will continue, to support it out of some misguided sense of solidarity/loyalty/nostalgia, regardless of how abysmal every aspect of the school is now performing due to piss poor leadership and a complete lack of accountability.

The General has his work cut out for him, if he lasts that long. The last guy that acknowledged the serious issues within the university and attempted to address them got ran out of town in less than a year.

Wyoming folk love them some status quo.
Yup. And then they'll sit and scratch their heads and wonder why kids like mine continue going elsewhere.

Of course, we have some folks on these very boards that will also sit and trash those kids for "not being loyal". There's people on this very site, lamenting the same problems we're lamenting, that are part of the problem.

As much as it would break my heart, if my daughter does end up going elsewhere I'll understand. I, too, had to go elsewhere for my secondary education (something I've also taken heat for as a local). Things have only gotten worse since then. Why should she entrust her future to this shitshow?

The school doesn’t deserve loyalty at this point. Academically, name a single major/department that is top-rated amongst a WUE peer. Athletics… self explanatory.

My impressions after this debacle: Our O-line is sub standard. We still do not have any receivers who can get open. All the big plays were to the tight end. The O-line can't run block or pass block. Harris had no holes and the qb is pressured on every throw.
I don't know what it is about bad coaches but the penalties just always come at the wrong time. The illegal man downfield not only killed a huge play, but then it lead to the interception that gave the sheep great field position and a momentum killing td.
Hughes did some good things. But he isn't going to be a big threat with his legs. He just isn't that fast.
The defense is going to be a big problem. The pash rush is non existent and the secondary just completely misses coverages.
This isn't a very good sheep team. I would be surprised if they win 1/2 their games. We are going to have to improve an enormous amount or this year is going to look exactly like the last 2.

We do have some receivers that are capable. The O line is horrible! When you have interior D in your backfield before you finish your 3 step drop...can't blame the QB for that. At least 2 of the ints was due to balls bouncing off of hands.....unacceptable...

It makes too much financial sense to go anywhere else for undergrad

Just sent the following email to Prez Reeves:

Please listen to the fans!

General Reeves,

I am sending you this email out of a place of emotion, but also from a place of common sense. Wyoming sports used to be a pillar of collegiate sports on a national level. That small school that everyone....and I mean EVERYONE feared to play. From the days where the Dome of Doom was a guaranteed loss to perennial national powers like Utah in the late 90s early 2000s, to the fear opponents felt coming into the War, at altitude, against Wyoming tough teams of the 90s.

For the past 30 years, Wyoming athletics has taken the stance of mediocrity. "If we can do the minimum, we win" attitude. Wyoming has not won an outright title (regular season) since the 2001-2002 Basketball team. I was there when we took on a Utah team that was the favorite with Rick Majerus on the sideline. The AA was packed to capacity (before the "remodel") and was the last time I felt that much pride in my Alma Mater.

We have had our blips of success. We have had our share of "got close". But we are talking a quarter century of mediocrity.

I implore you to take a look at the history of Wyoming athletics and honestly evaluate our current AD and his performance over the past 20 years. It has been close to 25 years since Wyoming Athletics has had a significant presence in the world of Collegiate Athletics and I am but one voice that remains passionate about our University, but by no means the only voice.

Please, take a real look at the state of Athletics and do what needs to be done.

It’s been a lot longer than a quarter of a century my friend. It is what it is unfortunately.

Football hasn't won an outright championship since 1988
Last time we won both a Conference Championship AND the bowl game afterwards.....1966. Won the WAC outright and beat Florida State, 28-20, in the 1967 Sun Bowl.

It depends a lot on the student. There is a lot of money available to elite students at many universities, especially private ones.

I’ve said this before, but it is looking like the out-of-pocket costs for my daughter to attend Baylor ($68k/year) is going to be less than for her to attend UW (out of state tuition) based on the scholarship packages she is being offered by each school.

Tuition is really just a number. What really matters is out-of-pocket costs after scholarship packages are applied. Those scholarship packages vary pretty widely from school to school.

I turned 16 in 1988.
The "golden age" of Wyoming football was 6 years before I started breathing.

I guess the best way I can voice my displeasure is not spend money on tickets. I said I would see what the ewe game at goat u brought. Not much. Not much in improvement.

I don’t plan to go to a game this year. I’ll get super nachos in Casper.

Something needs to change, and it needs to start with Burmans keys to the door. Until then, I’m not going to a game.

Take what you want from my email and send it to Reeves. Nothing is going to change unless he has a reason to make a change....

Since 1979 Wyoming has an overall record of 267 wins and 287 losses with 2 ties. That’s a .482 winning percentage.

It's not loyalty/solidarity/nostalgia. It's ignorance and stupidity. Most Wyoming fans throughout the state don't know anything about the business of collegiate sports and how it works. That's why you hear, "let's drop to FCS," and, "We should have all Wyoming kids playing.",
