Super Late Signee

Wyoming signed a 2026 QB out of Fresno, Tyler Franklin. Very fast (21mph). Had some offers from Montana State and Delaware State as a 3 -star. 6'3 175 so needs to put on size.

Before everyone gets up in arms on a random QB signing ole Hawaii has TWO QBs on their roster.

We are roughly 10 days away from the start of fall camp.

Very bizarre story.

Graduated HS in December 2025. Had offers from some pretty good FCS programs, but decided to commit to Fresno City College (JUCO). Then transferred to Wyoming in late July.

Either this was a grades/academic thing or he was getting some awful advice.

He spent the spring in CC. Based on FCS cooling and D2 offers I would suspect academics.

His size and speed would get him an offer at most middle schools so grades would be my guess and why he qualified late after a semester at community college

Like that he’s not a statute
Knowing that Vigen pursued him tells me that he can play offense. Ever since Vigen didn’t have to run the 3 yards and a cloud of dust 3 and out punting offense, his offenses at MSU have been very productive.

Already we have a better player for the scout team at the least than the type of player you described we have had the last decade or so on the depth chart.

Interesting. Maybe he waited too long on the FCS offers and they filled the spots and pulled their offers?

Is he on scholarship at UW or is he coming as a walk on?
SAT or ACT even. I was never smart enough to garner those honors so maybe he was missing something that colleges wanted for admittance?

I guess it's possible, but that seems crazy to think you can get into college without taking a college entrance exam. Any high school guidance counselor or coach would have let him know otherwise.

I'll leave it at that. Glad he is at UW albeit through a very interesting route.

There is no such thing as a walk on anymore. Every player on the football roster must be on scholarship and there are strict roster size limits of 105 players (cannot exceed). These are the new NCAA FBS requirements following the House settlement.

I almost guarantee this is solely related to Anthony Beavers being denied eligibility last week and thus another spot surprisingly opened on the UW roster. So we filled it with a guy that the staff felt had some upside and who was available.

Thanks for the information. I haven’t really kept up with all the changes.

Makes a lot more sense now.

I'm fine with this signing. athletic and might fit the Chrisitian Taylor QB profile better than some of the other QBs. i was a little curious who might be an odd man out under the new OC. I watched Taylor Hasselbeck and liked a lot about what I saw. Good pocket awareness, can move in pocket and keeps his eyes downfield. I never saw him bail early and he looked to make a pass. Has a nice touch on his passes and looked to understand that he doesn't need a fastball every time. Wouldn't say his arm is strong but looks adequate. I wouldn't say he's super athletic, some naked boots and one scramble he took to the house. Unless this kid starts hitting the calories soon, he's 2 years out from sniffing it. We have him listed at 6'2" and 180lbs! We know Landon can handle it although those knees haven't been able to. It might be Mason. Did his feet seem a little slow from what we saw? Guess we'll know more once we see this offense.

Hard to judge any of the QBs from the past couple of years when the OL has a NIL sponsorship from Swiss Cheese. I am not justifying the terrible QB play but how Wyoming kept their OL coach is beyond me

Yes. Until UW gets improved line play, they will continue to struggle. It all starts with the big guys up front.

I have never seen an OL like Wyoming the past few years that was continually on the ground after plays or never on blocks. They looked like turtles on their backs after most running plays and just let guys through on the pass blocking
