Coach Tuberville's Proposal----- I LIke it.

Just saw this tid bit. Former Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville has (or plans to) introduce a bill to reign in all the transfer portal madness.

"Alabama senator and former college football head coach Tommy Tuberville introduced a new bill that would place limits on NCAA eligibility and help curb some of the chaos across college sports due to the emergence of the transfer portal and the way NIL has been used to entice players to transfer. Tuberville’s bill would set eligibility limits at 5 consecutive years of play or 5 consecutive seasons. Athletes could transfer once; additional transfers would require sitting out a year."

In addition: he said " “That’s why I’m introducing a bill that would allow student-athletes to transfer 1 time without penalty, no questions asked. After that, if you choose to transfer, you sit out a year. It’s simple,” he added. It is also worth noting that Tuberville said current policies allow movement that resembles “unrestricted free agency rather than amateur competition” and added in an interview with Outkick that athletes are “selling themselves” for the money rather than buying into a program.

If this were in place would it have helped the Pokes retain talent? I am looking for an impact player that transferred to Wyo then out to a second (or third school)...any thoughts?

I would add this restriction - if the head coach leaves for another program, players from the program he left will have to sit out one year if they transfer to the program the coach was hired at even if it is their first transfer. They would still retain their free transfer year if not already utilized for future use.

The intent is to make it less enticing for a “hot” coach directly recruiting his former players. It forces that coach to recruit the open market like anyone else in assembling their new team for ready to play right away players.

Players from the program needing to replace their head coach could still transfer to any other program on the open market according to the rules.

It’s a small remedy to force big money programs to compete with everyone else for instant success instead of simply trying to buy it.
