NIT!!

It's a very good Wichita State team we're playing, however we do have a direct transitive win over them via CSU. It's not an amazing draw but WSU will be on spring break, so there will likely be less of a student section and maybe more of a neutral site feeling to the game, WSU often has a hostile environment so that may play in the favor of the good guys.

Super happy with the NIT invite! This team deserves another game, and it will be fun to see how they do on the road during postseason. Survive and advance guys!

Why would GCU turn it down? Lmao they have big heads and think they are too cool for school too? Wonderful
All their big time scorers were graduate or seniors. I do think they have two juniors that played valuable minutes but they gain nothing by playing in the NIT since they will lose 80% of their roster.

If Wyoming can keep their core together, outside of the seniors, then they can use this to springboard to next year.

Stupid question but who makes the decision to play postseason tournaments? Is it the players, coaches, or administrators? The reason I ask is because I am curious how much buy-in they will get from the players.

Technically the administrators but you would really want to get the input of the coaches and players. Great opportunity! Very tough opponent.

That's the theory, I suppose. We won the CBI under Allan Edwards and the next year we were awful. These guys have already played more than 30 games together. A few more games in a meaningless tournament where everyone is eager for spring break isn't going to affect next year. We don't even know how many of the current guys are going to hit the portal. And I'll bet it's not zero. I would imagine if you took a poll of the players, most of them do not want a free trip to Wichita.

Let’s be honest. Wyoming is going to the NIT because it has become an afterthought for the big conferences. They either go to the Crown event in Vegas or skip postseason all together.

NIT is basically the new CBI.

That said, happy for this team to get a postseason invite!

The CBI is a financial strain and I think just to get in is some $30k fee. I don't think the NIT has those same requirements and Wyoming may make money

CBI got canceled this year: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...invitational-abruptly-cancels-2026-tournament

HEre is an article on the Crown Tournament: https://dailycampus.com/2025/04/08/...s-killing-the-nit-and-changing-college-hoops/ Crown Tournament with NIL payments is attracting P4 programs.

I suspect SDSU is projecting themselves as no longer a mid-major waiting on a bid from this event and probably should be as they are only a couple of years removed from making the NCAA championship game.

I meant that NIT is the new CBI in being the 3rd choice for men’s basketball postseason play. Major college team don’t want NIT if left out of NCAAT; it’s crown or nothing.
