Everything is Broken

Football. Men’s basketball. Women’s basketball. All crap.

Wresting and Volleyball are serviceable.

We are a joke and I have no hope.

We may not want to “drop down” to FCS, but to anyone paying attention, we functionally already have.

Absent drastic steps, which we won’t take, we are a dead program walking.

I would say Wrestling is more than serviceable especially in this NIL world. I agree with serviceable on Volleyball another season for the MW tourney they will be on the right path

I will concede both points and optimism for volleyball. Otherwise, we can agree our athletics programs are crap?

As for concern about UW more broadly, Ore, I agree. We are sending an absolutely horrific message to the youth in Wyoming. Gut higher education. Gut business development, recruitment, and diversification. Go backwards on K-12 investment.

And put $250 million more in temporary savings to pile on top of the billions (with a big ol' B) that we have in both restricted, protected, and other temporary savings.

What puzzles me is everyone is on board that the athletic department sucks and our programs are headed nowhere and they are frustrated with the lack of activity from the Board of Trustees. The only other way to make any sort of change is through the legislature. So i don't blame the legislature for pulling the $3M annually in NIL money. It sends a message that this is not business as usual and things are not acceptable. It seems to be the only way that anything will change. I've posted before our budget will still be in line with most of the remaining teams in the MWC so the moving down is just a bluff from Burman and the good old boys. Or else they are so incompetent that they can figure out how to run the department in the same league as UTEP in spite of the fact UTEP's budget will still be $20 million less than UW's.

I am trying to find where this $3M ask was for NIL. The number was pulled to support possible lost funds due to media rights and a big one was the House Settlement vs NCAA that requires Universities to pay former athletes. 550K over the x number of years. I don't equate the house settlement to NIL but I could be off base.

The JAC approving the CJC matching $5M makes me lean to they are directing a direct shot at Burman since the President is on his way out in June due to his own arrogance. Can justify $5M to CJC but $3M over two years is a bridge too far?

The legislature isn’t pulling money to force change. They literally want UW athletics, and UW in general, to disappear. They hate education and want to live in the horse-buggy age. They are Stone Age hillbillies

Based on what I’ve seen and witnessed, you are giving the freedom caucus way too much credit in its thinking. Poll the freedom caucus without them having their cell phones to receive their instructions from their bosses, I’d be surprised if more than 1 or 2 caucus members even know what the CJC is or who Burman is.

Lol. Looks like Wyoming is becoming a carpet bagging state. A lot of people never born in Wyoming and simply moved there and get into politics.

Of course they don't know those things. They're all carpetbaggers who came to Wyoming because Indiana wasn't conservative enough or whatever.

Oh, this makes me feel so much better!
Exactly, doesn't this sort of embody the incompetence and basically why the Freedom Caucus wants to make the cuts? UW can't even figure out how much the outrageous salaries are. More likely, Burman got with Sidel showed him the salaries of the other AD's in the MWC. Sidel agreed to raise his salary. Few people on this and other boards took note and called it out. Burman went back in and told Sidel they needed to cut it back to where it was because there was so much outcry over the increase.

No way Burman went back in and asked for his salary to reduced. More likely he asked they hide it some place maybe a travel or entertainment budget line.

Doesn’t his salary increase for the coming year? Of course it’s only 500k for the last year
Right, his comment that his W2 says $500k can be true for 2025, but why would the budget list his compensation as $800k+ if it wasn't going to be. If that's wrong in the budget, then they have bigger issues of not being able to prep a budget properly.
