Reality

Let’s face reality. Under the NIL Wyo has zero chance of competing in the FBS. We have what we have with coaches and since we have little NIL money to entice higher caliber players, the best we can ever hope for is a “really that’s a bowl game” appearance. Wyo should move to the FCS and be somewhat competitive or continue a lost cause and mire in the FBS. Next year we’ll be in the worst conference in FBS. Rather be competitive with a chance in the FCS than continue to be a bottom dweller in the future pathetic (FBS?) MW conference

This ‘reality’ ignores that the rest of the new crappy mountain west has the exact NIL problems. Probably worse funded.

The reality is that Sawful fired Johnson and promoted JB. JB has managed the offense to 45 points in 4 games for an average of 11.25 ppg. The last 3 games the average is 5.67.

The reality is nothing was done to enhance the offense when Sawful took over and the offense continues to digress.

Hawaii 35 Wyoming 3.

Reality is no team from the MWC will be competing soon in this division anymore. It will be split off from the top 4 conferences. Those are the facts.
Top 4? I’d argue it’s the top 2. I wish they would just break away and form the semipro league they want. Let college football get back to what it once was and quit all of the money chasing and hoarding that the SEC and BIG10 have created.

Here's the reality. Northern Colorado has a stadium that seats 9k. That's all we'll need if drop down to play South Dakota State and Montana. Maybe it will come to that. Because fans are going to get tired of paying big boy prices to see a team that's losing nearly every home game - and putting the fans to sleep in the process.

It starts at quarterback obviously, but we have had a receiver have more than 70 yards in a game only twice all season (Durr 146 and Holman 79 both in the opener against Akron).

I won't place all of the responsibility on the QB. Without a doubt Anderson has missed guys being open, ALL QB's have done this. The real issue with Anderson in my book is that he doesn't manage the game well, it manages him. He has taken too many bad sacks, i.e. - keep going backwards to just get caught more than 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage is on him. Throw the ball away instead of taking a bad sack. He wants to make plays, I get that, but just throwing up a hail Mary is a recipe for disaster, as we have seen with so many INT's. So, he heaves the ball up into double coverage and very narrow windows, which is bad decision on his part imo. He doesn't always manage the clock well and we have seen that from the coaches as well.

But for some reason some WR's disappear, like Durr. Why wasn't Durr more utilized? Fitzgerald is good, but Durr is a really dangerous receiver once he gets the ball, he makes things happen. But Durr isn't regularly targeted. I just have to ask this, why is Sargent out there taking an important position when he rarely gets open and rarely blocks well?

I am NOT going to blame the OL for the pressure that Anderson has felt for the most part. Opposing coaches have discovered that with more pressure on the line, Wyoming can't overcome this pressure. So the opposing DC's overload the box, too many attackers vs blockers. Anderson doesn't get rid of the ball quickly enough, Wyoming's WR don't get open or separation well, and the coaches have not developed a good enough blocking scheme with the TE's and RB's to keep Anderson from having to run. I will knock Anderson for pulling the ball down too quickly and deciding that he has to take off. Anderson does NOT throw the ball well when he is on the run, he isn't a Josh Allen.

For some reason the play calling has been dismal. Yesterday, as they have done in past games, call that pass out to the flat and then expect the WR to break tackles to get open. That play has gotten stuffed so many times it truly should be called the Turkey of All Plays. But the coaches seem to keep trying it. The object is to get the ball down the field, and not to lose 5 yards on first down.

The reality is that the offensive coaches are throwing anything and everything against the wall to see what sticks. To see offensive coaches doing that at this late date in the season shows me that the offensive coaches are desperate and have no clue as to how to get this going. Anderson is limited and his decision making is questionable at times, but coaches have done him no favor by designing poor offensive game plans and poor play calling. The Wyoming offensive coaches seem to be locked into one plan, get the run game going, and we are going to jam this down the throat until.....whenever, and if it isn't successful, we will keep doing it. If you can't set-up the pass game by running first, how about turning it around and set-up the run game by making the defense respect your passing game? We only seem to get heavily into the passing game once we get desperate, which is often how we end games.

Sawvel is a defensive coach at heart and while he knows how to develop games plans against offenses, he doesn't know how to develop offensive game plans. I am surprised that Johnson didn't do better, I expected a lot more out of the offenses under him. A good offensive coach truly knows the talent and how to utilize that talent to the best of its abilities, but we don't seem to have offensive coaches that truly utilize the talent they have to its best advantage.

I feel that Sawvel HAS TO bring in an experienced OC, that actually has been successful at the FBS level to get things going.

opposing teams know all they have to do is stop the run cos wyoming can't pass the ball.

The Pokes have to bring in a QB who is able to manage the game, has a quick release and is accurate. I haven't seen enough of Mason Drube to know if he is the right QB, but he certainly has the credentials to be the right one.

WYO is positioned to do well in the new era in the g6 ranks. We need a governor to tell the bot to put more emphasis on athletics. We need to hire a president that understands that and commits to it. He/she needs to hire a smart and ambitious ad. The ad needs to evaluate and overhaul the dept. The ad needs to can pbj and crew and hire a seasoned head coach. Then, the governor needs to back the department financially and with creative funding opportunities like partnering with the tourism board.

Without commitment from the state, the bot, the president, and new ad, we might as well drop football. UW athletics needs an overhaul

First person I’ve seen say that.

Why were you expecting success with Johnson? Johnson was able to take NFL talent at Michigan State and turn it into one of the worst offenses in college football. It takes a special level of coaching to do that.
