QB Recruiting...

Look, I get we are never gonna get a 4 or 5 star recruit. I am ok with that, but there are a lot of serviceable qbs who are decently athletic and can complete a 5 yard curl route. I do not understand how we haven't been able to find anybody decent. shit I will take an unathletic statue who can make decent decisions and does not overthrow his receivers by 5 yards. Shit half of the FCS teams have better qbs than WYO does. I hope Drube gets a chance these last 4 games and I hope we bring in another freshman with a JUCO and or transfer to compete next year.

I'm as frustrated by Andersen and our general QB play as anybody but reality is not that there is a wealth of QB talent out there. It's largely a wasteland.

The odds of Drube getting anything other than 1 drive in the last 1:30 of a game we’re getting blown out in are slim.

But 6’ QB’s can’t play at this level. Diego Pavia proves it. He couldn’t lead NMSU to prominence and transferred to Vanderbilt where only because the rest of the team is so good he gets undeserved credit.

Seems like there was a 6’1” guy who went to Vanderbilt after he played at some low level MWC program in the west many years ago.

The only success Wyoming can expect to have will be with 6’5” guys who need 2-3 years of training to perfect the struggle to find consistency with the forward pass play.

Maybe it’s the receivers not the QB. It’s most likely a bad OL, but there never has been a coaching issue with the program residing traditionally in the bottom half of the MWC in offense.

Wyoming depends entirely on the diamond in the rough ideology. The way I selfishly look at it is if you don’t pursue the better players you will get exactly what you do pursue and if that means you are pursuing the majority of your core team as developmental you will spend a lot of resources and be short with the return on investment due to attrition of all reasons.

If Drube is the next diamond it will most likely take until 2027 to find out. No need to rush into exposing him to his surroundings.

If it was only that simple. CU has a lot of dough to throw around and their NIL transfer from Liberty has been awful. Every qb CU has is terrible. CSU benched their qb and brought in the disaster we saw last week. There is a lot of bad qb play out there. FCS teams play FCS teams. If those teams had D1 quality qb's, they would get NIL offers. Frankly, it's like looking at Canadian football and thinking those guys are good.

I would agree with playing Drube. And I think we only have 3 games left. So he wouldn't be burning his redshirt.

Iowa's starting QB led South Dakota State to an FCS title. Top 10 Ole Miss has a QB that last played at Ferris State. The QB at Montana is better than any QB on the Wyoming roster.

I am not saying it's that simple, but throwing a ball high over somebody's head on comeback or curl routes is on the QB. I do not think that is too much to ask for a FBS QB. Like I said, I am not asking or a Josh Allen all the time, but a serviceable guy that can complete simple routes is not too much to ask. I dont care how good our defense can be or how good our oline can be, if we cannot find a serviceable QB to complete simple routes, 6-6 7-5 is the best we will do. I guess there are some coaches that just have that eye. Tiller always found a juco qb that could play (Hughes, Wallwork, Dombek, Gustin) even DC had an eye for qb's with Carta-Samuels, Brett smith. They are out there. Sawful has one more year to find one or else he's probably gone.

I think in the modern NCAAF, a dual threat quarterback is optimal. Anderson is one-dimensional and he’s not very good at the one thing he should be good at (passing). The problem with dual threat quarterbacks is that they are prone to injury. A team really needs 2-3 of them to get through a season. Wyoming’s whole offensive strategy would have to change.

The median QB in college football would be an upgrade from what we are seeing...but it wouldn't change the outcome. I think the median QB is being overrated in this thread.

Signed Peasley
Loved Peasley...tough and had some great moments...that said, he's above the median for sure in terms of college football QB's. I know he never stuck in the NFL but the median college player is not getting UFA interest or playing professionally in any of the non-NFL leagues.

Since he was a backup at usu and had few transfer options, I'd say that is a perfectly attainable level of qb who can make a difference.

Peasley may have had at least one more win and the SDSU game may have been closer at the end. The kid was a competitor--I do not see it in Anderson at all.

That's about how I would describe him as well ... I'm taking issue with the thought that when that level of QB play is easy to achieve. He's good, but as you say, it took the right environment. We have not created that environment.

I don't know. I honestly think it's MUCH easier than what the POKES have done. There's a lot of FCS qbs better than what we've had.
