Fire Tom Burman

The funny part of that argument that he was kept to preserve the roster is that 1 year later those same people are arguing that the roster was garbage and he was left with nothing. haha it is madness and changes to a new excuse every time our coach or AD speak. I am agreeing with you that it was a really bad contract for Wyoming.
Bingo. Listen to Cody Tucker make excuses for the roster Sawvel inherited. He makes it sound like the cupboard was completely bare. If it was, then what the hell were we trying to save? Not to mention that the defense got worse when Sawvel came on board as DC! But, what do you expect from the AD that extended Heath Schroyer - after a 7-9 conference record?

Wow...I had no idea people were actually making that argument..(I don't listen to Cody Tucker obviously). Acting like the cupboard was bare is nonsensical...not because we have some reservoir of talent, but because getting it done with the cards you are dealt is the job at Wyoming. Bohl understood that, and the "success" (I know...he's not Paul Roach) he had was largely in spite of talent level and not because of it.

Bohl had built something that was perennially tough, hardnosed and well-respected. That is what Sawfull inherited...in nearly two seasons...it has been pretty much squandered.

I don't follow the non-revenue sports much. Has Burman had a decent to good hire his entire tenure? I can't think of any that were home runs either. I liked Schyatt but was extremely disappointed when he bailed early so I don't think that's a home run.
No home runs. If you consider winning a women’s soccer chip once a home run I guess that would count. Maybe the women’s tennis coach? Didn’t they win a chip?

If having Bohl around insulated Burman from criticism...this Sawfull episode will end him. If this season goes about like I think it will, Burman has to fire him. Maybe a good athletic director is not really about hiring good coaches, it's more about firing bad ones.
Sawvell is getting a 3rd year regardless of the record. Bohl was 4-8 and 2-10 and got the 3rd. I can't see how Sawvell wouldn't be given the 3rd year.

While you are probably right about Sawful getting a third year, the two scenarios are very different from one another.

Bohl inherited a program in bad shape that everyone knew needed to be rebuilt. Sawful inherited a team that had just won 8 games and, outside of the COVID year, had been building momentum/consistency. Burman said explicitly that Sawful's job was not just to keep the program where it was, but was to take "the next step".

Bohl was also a proven head coach - he was going to get a lot longer leash because of his reputation. Sawful is a first time head coach that has proven nothing at all.

Given this reality, Bohl deserved a third year. There is no way that Sawful does. I don't think Sawful even deserved a second year to be quite honest. But Burman, money, blah blah blah means Sawful probably gets that third year.
