Wyoming vs CU

CU is not good but UW is worse. I suspect it will be closer than the 13.5 line but still a double digit loss. Our offense is offensive.

I just think we suck now. Hopefully I am surprised. I guess I’m in the minority, but I do not think Utah is that great. They are good, but not top 25 worthy and they beat us down. We’ll see

Wyoming REALLY struggles on the road, as is tradition. Expectation are low.

Hoping offense can find some big plays or playmakers, though.

Colorado's defense hemorrhages yards to everyone they play (like Akron) and Wyoming's offense isn't great (10 points against Akron). Whichever one of these 2 units plays better will be the difference in the game.

Will the Wyoming OC play careful and afraid or be willing to go aggressive is the question.

Of course, the game plan can be more aggressive but the players will also need to make the plays.

Colorado will be able to score some points and it will come down to Wyoming scoring TD’s not just moving the ball and settling for a FG try or a punt through the end zone.

We need a healthy J-Mike to have any chance.
Really? You are going to have to explain how a tight end whose best year was 30 catches is that important. He's the greatest tight end who never gets open. I know he caught a touchdown against mighty Northern Iowa. But he's done absolutely nothing otherwise - other than drop a pass against Utah.

I guess we will agree to disagree. When he is on the field, he draws the attention of the defense opening things up for receivers on the outside. In addition, he is our only real threat to routinely convert the 3rd and 6. I’m sorry you think he sucks. I disagree.

Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say he sucks. But he is not a difference maker. And if he is as good as you say, he should have gone somewhere else. Because in this offense, he has basically been invisible.

The fact that JMG is seen as a crux piece to our offense is damning for our OC, OL, QB play and WR room. To me, it points to the reality that our offense is beyond anemic - which has been fully evidenced in our three games this season. Akron - AKRON - held us to 3 points until late in that game. Akron is terrible. UNI is a middlin' FCS team that I refuse to use as a measuring stick for anything - but we sputtered against them in all reality. The defense won that game for us. And Utah pulled our offense's pants down, spanked them, and then, for good measure, insulted their moms and left them literally sidelined for a huge expanse of the game. The Utes have a stout defense, but we made them look like the 1985 Bears. JMG is a perfectly serviceable TE - but should not be determinative of any outcome in any game. If he is, which I think he might be (to Ore's point), we are in trouble.

On a bright note, I think Tote Harris is a strong piece to build around - but our OL has to be better. A lot better. They have been terrible - IMHO - and Tripodi is showing to be a lackluster position coach based on the results his squads have repeatedly offered up. The lack of any push on 3rd and 4th and short against Akron and Utah was really disconcerting and follows last year's ugly outcomes.

I still think our Oline problems are scheme based more than skill/size based. We run stretch running plays on those short yardage situations all of the time with a 230lb back that isn't blazing fast. Bohl built this oline and rb to move people, not block horizontal and hope for an opening. Our oline was just as big as Utah's. Utah had a d tackle that was 280 at best and we never tested him. Their linebackers were athletic and small. We just didn't ever run actual power run at all in the game.

I've said it before, we ran 3 play action passes before we got to 2 runs called in the Utah game. It was a gameplan that was scared to death of Utah.

I didn't always love Coach Bohls OC's calling power run on 3 downs and then punting it but I always thought that it just needs tweeked a bit and complete a few more throws. We have totally revamped our entire offense again back to the spread. Our old guys on the Oline weren't designed to play this style at all. We have a line that averages 310 and 6'5". Lets run the ball in some power formations. When it is 3rd and 2 then get a lead blocker and move some people. You would be at 4 and 1 at the worst. Instead we line up in the shotgun and run a stretch run to the outside with a hope for a cutback lane.

The Bohl style offense was actually a quite complicated offense.... much like what he was around at Nebraska. The power Osborne offense may have looked simple but it was extremely complicated to execute, especially with the blocking schemes. In those days you had players for 3-5 years to teach them that kind of offense. In the current era of CFB That's just not the case anymore

Where as now you would be lucky to have a player for multiple years in the program... As a result Programs are almost forced to run a "Generic Spread" offense that a majority of CFB teams are using. You can plug and play. Players can adapt to the style and learn the playbook much easier than systematic style offenses. NFL offenses operate the same way, a free agent QB can come in and learn the playbook in less than a week.

I’m happy that he stayed at Wyoming. I imagine he probably did have several offers to play somewhere else. As Wyoming fans, I believe we should cheer when a player elects to stay rather than question how good they must actually be simply because they chose to stick around in a bad offense.

I believe it is more damning for the coaching staff, particularly the offensive coaching staff. The fact that we don’t have any other plays to go to in order to convert a 3rd and 6 is pretty damning to the coaching staff and their ability to adapt to the personnel we have.

I’ll say it again - we have an athlete (Svoboda) that is very inaccurate throwing the ball but is probably good for at least 2 yards every time he runs the ball. Why not mix up the play calls a bit and run a series here or there of single wing/QB power with Svoboda and give Anderson some rest. When every defense expects run, then let Svoboda throw a bomb or two throughout the season. But simply allowing our current statute of a QB to throw the ball from a pocket that doesn’t stay a pocket very long and stare down receivers when it isn’t working is not a recipe for success. We have to be able to adjust and utilize the personnel we have to be as proficient as possible.

Again, don't put words in my mouth. You're the one who said we need a healthy JMG to have "any chance". I don't believe that is remotely the case. If he catches more than 2 passes, I will be pleasantly surprised.

You can quote me on this - if J-Mike does not catch more than 2 passes, we won’t beat Colorado. If he catches more than 2 passes, maybe we have a shot but still unlikely.
