Northern Iowa at Wyoming Preview

It seems that the Mountain West Conference (MWC) might hold off on any announcements until the ongoing lawsuits are resolved. They likely want to secure a favorable outcome in court, and revealing a new deal during this time could jeopardize their legal standing. I've heard that ESPN is considering either the PAC or MWC, but the PAC is asking for too much, which could give the MWC an edge in securing that deal. However, the longer the lawsuits drag on, the more opportunity the PAC has to rethink their position and potentially sign with ESPN. As for what we know, the MWC generated $45 million from their TV deal in 2024, with an increase to $48 million expected in 2025.

Hawaii is set to contribute $3.1 million from outside the MWC deal, which will be included in the new TV agreement, along with the GCU local TV deal (Az Family) in 2025. CBS, FOX, and possibly ESPN or another partner will complete the package. Earlier this spring, MWC officials were optimistic about securing a deal worth $48 million annually, especially since they were negotiating an extension before the departure of the disloyal five, which could have averaged $60 million per year without ESPN involved. Fox remains in the mix, and half of the CBS deal is still on the table. I'll keep you updated as more information becomes available, but it likely won't come until after the lawsuits are settled.
Thanks. I just remember seeing our AD saying he was expecting something in the ballpark of $3.5M - which would be $35M at the most - unless they plan on adding a bunch of schools.

I know that a subsequent agreement signed by seven MWC members included a provision guaranteeing a minimum of $3.5 million per year (until 2032) in media rights money for each full member. But that is the floor, not the ceiling.

This is from the 7220 Sports story from a couple weeks ago: https://7220sports.com/wyoming-athletics-house-settlment-nil/

Not to mention the department also expects another financial hit in the near future after the Mountain West Conference signs its new media rights deal. With five current programs -- Colorado State, Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State and Utah State -- departing for the new-look Pac-12 after this season, Burman said the current $3.7 million a year the school receives will "probably" be lower.

Note: I'm not calling you out. I'm just an interested fan seeing different stuff on the Internet - and trying to find out what's going on.

The AD may certainly have better info then me. My question is if they signed an agreement saying 3.5M is the floor, I wonder how much lower then 3.7M his he talking? Also what does probably mean?

Also what does Commish Glo's comments mean? "Obviously, everyone wants more, but I think what we’re going to end up with is going to be very good for the Mountain West."

I wouldn't think 3.7M or lower is VERY GOOD.....

Going to be interesting, thank you for sharing that article first I have heard an AD speak negatively about the new TV extension.
