Wyoming R1 university

Wow. Perception is reality. Athletics has become a minor concern until this nonsense gets cleared up.

Be prepared for some of UW’s actual best leaders to leave. There is no longer any confidence in the BOT amongst many of those who really care and do a good job for the University and a perception that the BOT is merely serving as Seidel’s lap dog (whether true or not is up for debate).

Seidel is safe with this BOT and the rumors swirling that those who really do a great job (the Cam Wright types) will just let Seidel take this ship into an iceberg on his own.

Hope it doesn’t happen but things are looking grim…especially when you consider next year is a budget session with the Freedom Caucus pulling the strings with the purse.

The "Freedom Caucus" effect is a sticky wicket. Judging from other discussions on this board, they have a lot of critics at varying levels. How much of the political rise of that faction can we chalk up the failings of previous leaders? I guess my point is that I don't necessarily blame the freedom caucus....they look like a reaction to mediocre to bad leadership from otherwise well-meaning people.

How long can government and leadership in Wyoming and the University deliver pretty bad outcomes before you get a reactionary group like the freedom caucus? I guess if you are a dyed-in-the-wool freedom caucus-er you will reject the premise of my question.

The Freedom Caucus has been clear for several years that it intends to drastically reduce University of Wyoming budgets. To the extent some of that could have been mitigated during next year's budget session, it is going to be a hard sell for the University President and BOT to tell the Freedom Caucus 'trust us bro' when the BOT turns a blind eye and is perceived to support these types of conflicts and allows leadership to go forth with rogue firings (the President/BOT call it a demotion but it is essentially a firing of an individual who stood up for ethical principles) of sensible, hard working, well liked and team oriented retired Colonels running the engineering department.

I guess I won't blame the Freedom Caucus for the distrust that they may have in the University and the Freedom Caucus' potential desire to tear it down. But I personally see this as the biggest tipping point for the University of Wyoming in my lifetime.

When it comes down to it - I guess I shouldn't care this much. I don't have any kids currently planning to attend the University. There are plenty of good schools out there without these problems.

UW should be less concerned about the Freedom Caucus and more alarmed by the fact that those that used to be their ambassadors, fund them unconditionally, wear nothing but brown and gold, see the University as a crown jewel, and follow the Pokes with cult-like zeal simply don't give a damn. One of my favorite quotes is that "apathy is as close to the undertaker as you can get." Well...here we are.
