Shhh. There are some that will tell you to be quiet because this was such a great idea.
Sarcastically - maybe it was a good idea and while painful, it may ultimately help clear the program from this staff and all programs from Burman as well.
I still harbor anger towards Bohl for refusing to improve the offense so that the program could compete for the championship. He was instrumental in pushing Svoboda to be the next great find. Enough of pointing a finger at Bohl for this setup as Sawville had every opportunity to say Svoboda didn’t have what it would take to propel the offense. Instead Sawville insisted on following the Bohl QB game plan that was grooming Svoboda for 2 years while Peasley was breathing a little life into the anemic offense.
In the postgame Sawville called himself a “shit coach”. He was clearly honest. I will applaud him for that piece of integrity but not when he was throwing other players under the bus once more implying they were guilty parties with the latest svoboda pick.
Former players made comments at the ASU game about the recruiting with one stating loudly he felt recruiting problems exist with the Executive Director of Recruiting for football. When the player exodus occurs and the NIL $$$ doesn’t exist to entice quality transfers it could bring the wrath of the fan base upon the university to clean house.
This hiring move by Burman has already
brought the football program to a 25 year low meaning the best thing that could happen would be to go 1-11 and lose a substantial number of players with an abysmal selection of portal replacements.
If Burman couldn’t see the pathetic decision making from his $1.5 million dollar hire and hear him call himself a shit coach maybe, just maybe, the fans and the big money sources might finally wake up and realize mediocrity is literally one wrong move away from utter failure and the program is already speeding westwards in the eastbound lane. Sawville was out coached from the first possession by a 33 year old interim head coach who will enjoy birthday 34 the day after getting his first FBS win while earning a fraction of the salary Burman inked our rookie to.
Otherwise, I can’t think of any other way to consider this a good idea and it was my gut feeling it might not be good when the new OC was hired and Svoboda was named starter before any consideration of recruiting from the portal.
By the way, where did the USU QB come from? Yep - Iowa. Where was the last transfer QB (named Carson May) that Bohl pursued from? Yep - Iowa where he had zero chance of ever playing behind Petras or anyone else. Our opponents can get the better players while we don’t even try to. Petras was not exactly a hot QB commodity but he is vastly superior to Svoboda.
Anderson showed if he is healthy he can play. He should carefully weigh if staying here under Sawville is worth it because he will be able to provide leadership to an aspiring offense and have the support to play for the TD elsewhere while winning games.
The UNM game may be the last chance to get a W but only if UNM loses all QB’s and have to play some player who last played QB in 4th grade flag football.
