Why won’t sawvell change QBs

Give this team to Bohl and I bet we would be 9-4…
I do wonder if Svoboda would look a whole lot better in a Bohl/Polasek offensive scheme. They at least seemed to understand his strengths and were able to put a game plan together to make him successful in his limited time last year.

Svoboda is obviously limited on the talent/skill side of things, but Sawvel/Johnson are not doing him any favors with what they are asking him to do. If you are going to keep trotting him out there every week, at least try a different game plan than the one he has failed to execute the entire season!

I’d say Bohl would be rolling over in his grave watching Svoboda in shotgun for short yardage situations…but Bohl is still alive.

We average about 1.5 yards a carry against SJSU. No way would a Bohl/Polasek/Vigen offense be that terrible in the run game. With the turnover gifts - We beat SJSU with just a less than average run game but we were awful.

38 rushes for 56 yards…never under Bohl

Reminds me of the guy who hits it great on the driving range and then sprays it all over the place when the round starts. Forgetting about the screen pass that only Manute Bol could catch, the offense did virtually nothing for more than 3 quarters. Changing qb's could give the team a bit of a lift, even if the backup isn't better. For the coach to stand pat while the season circles the drain is unforgivable. And I'm tired of hearing how we can't recruit and this is as good as we can do. Our players were every bit as goods as SJS. Terrible play calling combined with awful qb play does us in every game. Give this group of players to Joe Tiller and the results (at least on offense) would be immeasurably better.
What, 5 tos and really nothing to show for them. Wth- the D served it up on a silver platter.

Only turned on the game around the "screen pass" and subsequent qb change. The SJSU announcers were baffled by the change and seemed to think Svoboda had us in position to win. They way the talked about him like the second coming of Josh Allen. Pretty bizarre.

Do you think Sawvel has attempted to reach out to Bohl for advice?

I mean, the guy did just win 9 games with almost the same team just one year ago.
I would hope so. Considering that Aaron Bohl is on staff and Aaron’s future depends largely how this shakes out then I’d assume so. But I can’t imagine Bohl supports anything he has seen with this offense - - it is the antithesis of what he preached for a decade here.

It was. Are those guys too stupid to simply look at stats?

Translation: we don't have 1 guy on roster that can qb. We have 1 guy that can kind of run but not pass. The other guy can maybe pass we hope but not as good of runner.

It’s actually the first decision of Sawvel I can say that I support. You use what you have to the best of the their abilities to try and win games. Being a coach isn’t taking into account the QB’s hurt feelings or concern he may transfer because the coach changes direction upon poor play. Now the question will be whether our staff actually has a gameplan to accommodate both skill sets or whether we just see the same damn offense with 2 different QBs. I am betting on the latter unfortunately.

Too Little. Too Late. Change should have been made the second half at ASU. Or at least after Idaho.

I disagree. We know what Svoboda can and can't do. Give Anderson a chance. Let him play the entire first half and see what he can do when the outcome isn't already determined. Sawvel clearly wants to play Svoboda and this is his way of giving in to the pressure to bench him. It's a weak, half assed move, imo.

Point taken but I have to point out how easy it is to forget. The last start under Bohl this bad was in 2018 with an equally poor QB which had 3 consecutive games with rushing in the 80’s including that monster bad ass team named Wofford in Laramie. The 2018 team was 2-6 before changing the QB. The upcoming game in Laramie has a good chance to be the 2nd win to go 2-6. But, unlike 2018, the easier games will have been played and the better teams are on the road likely eliminating any chance to finish on a 5-0 win streak to reach 6-6.

Bohl RECRUITED Svoboda as his first QB signing after his infamous national QB search. Bohl was bound and determined that Svoboda was the next great diamond find and all that has happened is his protege implemented the plan.

Bohl had recruited no QB going into the December 2023 early signing and only after Deyon Batiste decommitted from Iowa State did Sawville offer. If Bohl had stayed, the question would be would he have recruited another QB and actively sought out a transfer starting quality QB or would he have stayed with svoboda, Anderson and Clemons? I would lean towards Bohl staying with those 3.

In 2018 Bohl was trying to figure out who might be his next RB - Bigelow, Valladay or Evans. He was ultimately hampered by Van Der Waal because defenses loaded the box as they didn’t have to take the pass game seriously. I can’t say the 2024 RB situation is any worse or any better.

Bohl set the course for this QB situation and Sawville went along with it. I guess if 80 some yards 3 consecutive games is significantly better than 56, I acquiesce and acknowledge Bohl to be superior. To me it’s the QB play that sets the tone and over the past several years there has been a helluva lot more marginal QB play than outstanding and way too many games with total offense under 300 yards.

The offense at Wyoming has competed nationally in or near the bottom 10% of total offense since 2016. The number of potentially winnable games list is staggering and explains why the program has not competed for a conference title despite all the postseason “Bohl” games.

Are you suggesting the QB’s Bohl recruited to be the future of Wyoming football for 2024 and beyond might not be the game changer types we fans hope to see someday before we die?
