Especially with the "play 4 games and still keep your redshirt" rule. No reason to not kick the tires here.
 
At some point, you gotta give Swavell the benefit of the doubt. But Sam Scott runs with so much more power. No knock on Jones (who knows what is happening) but he rarely seemed to make it much beyond the LOS. A little bit of flash but seems to go down on first contact. Again, not knocking the kid. But if he moved away from the team...little does he know we are going to win the MWC. A joke.

He’s already announced he will only play 4 games this year. He will be gone for sure next year.
 
Sawvel had mentioned that Waylee should be in for the Utah State game. Really could use him this week.

Jeanty like numbers? With respect, Ashton Jeanty is on pace to not only beat Derek Henry's 2015 Heisman season yardage, but he is also on pace to beat Barry Sanders 1988 Heisman season rushing yards. Harrison Waylee is talented but not a chance he can put up Jeanty like yards at Wyoming nor anywhere else.
 
Just thinking about this and I 100% agree. The whole concept of a "redshirt" seems like it went from being a coaching decision to a player decision. In today's pay to play, NIL, transfer portal the balance has completely shifted away from coaches, universities, fans and alumni to players and their agents. Get as much production out of them as possible as soon as possible.

I cannot wait for agency and NIL to hit high school sports. It is gonna be so awesome. It will be really exciting seeing a 13 year old doing local car commercials. By age 15, a Ford spokesperson and Viagra endorser.

Interesting to think how many "4 game seasons" a kid could have? Postpone his collegiate career indefinitely. The rest of FBS might actually catch up to BYU. With luck, maybe we will see 20 year olds playing high school sports someday when the redshirt reset button trickles down.
 
In today's news: "Deion Sanders has faced an intriguing situation midway through the season as multiple players approached him, seeking to redshirt. While Sanders did not disclose the names of most players involved, he expressed concern over the motives behind these requests. He worries that some players may be exploiting the redshirt rule as a strategy to preserve eligibility and enter the transfer portal, effectively turning college football into a revolving door of talent, similar to NFL free agency. Sanders believes there needs to be more oversight to protect the integrity of the game."

To this I say...no shit, who would have ever thought this would happen? In other news, BYU has announced the presence of "some anxiety amongst players" for some undetermined reason.

Under current rules, you only get one ‘4 game’ redshirt season. A lot of current players still have this redshirt because they already got a Covid year redshirt giving them a theoretical 6 years of playing (and perhaps more if they received any medical redshirts).
 
With the proliferation of big money in college athletics, I wonder how long it will be before players challenge the limit on years they are allowed to play. I fully expect an athlete to say that they are being denied the chance to make significant coin in college because of the arbitrary "four years of eligibility" business. Amateurism is dead anyway, why not go all the way and say that college sports are simply an alternative to turning pro - and you can move around as you see fit. Similarly, I wouldn't be surprised if players that go pro and flail and fail in the pro game sue to go back and play in college. I'm not saying I support either, but with the current state of play, they are wholly plausible.
