Texas St gets a MW offer to join the conference.

Kind of wonder if this poster is just trolling, to get movement with the other west coast G5 conference...
 
Personally I'd be okay with TX ST and UTEP and calling it a day. NMSU seemed to make some sense and would bring good basketball to the table, but I wouldnt lose sleep if we don't get them.
 
I think the PAC-whatever is going after texas state now so I bet we don’t get them. The other MW schools were not good enough for the pac-whatever, but Texas state is. wtf

I haven't seen anything from the typical respected sources on TXST, but I saw the Thamel post last night elsewhere. He's pretty solid and UTEP and the MWC have had discussions several times over the years even before all this. I'd put money on it.

The back and forth between UTEP and the MWC has some history and reasoning, but the landscape and the situation has changed and I think it's probably a done deal.

I'd rather have TXST and/or UNT for a few reasons, but beggars can't be choosers.

As for NMSU: I'd be just fine without them. UTEP wanting to come as a package deal with NMSU has always been one of the alleged sticking points in talks to join the MWC, and for good reason. They compete heavily with UNM for media market, recruiting, resources, etc., and they're not very good in much outside of basketball. They just don't add much (besides rivalry games) and arguably actually take away.

Not to mention their relationship with UNM is rather heated, much moreso than a typical rivalry. We're talking literal murders and sh*t. I'm not sure we want to deal with all that any more than we have to.

So yea; I'm with Poke in New England...I'd be good with TXST and UTEP and calling it a day.

Burman said there are some FCS programs on the table, but that he won't speculate...and I don't think we reach too far if we don't have to. Especially since he's already voiced an unwillingness to spend too much of the war chest on getting other teams...and even if they (the FCS teams) were willing, it recently got MUCH more expensive for teams to move up to FBS (the cost went from like $5k to $5 million, and that doesn't even include the cost of the extra scholarships and such).

Texas State doesn’t cost WSU/OSU another $13 million in poaching fees. Nothing to do with Texas State being more deserving.

This is what is happening behind closed doors at a lot of levels. If it had never been released that TX had been offered, then everybody thinks that it didn't happen and everybody complains about that. What is worse? Publicly offering and getting rejected? or getting a closed door rejection and having everybody opine that "they should have gotten TX state"?
