While you certainly may be correct, in this day and age, with NIL and the Portal - it is more of a "win now" culture than anytime before. And I believe this years team is suited for that, with HC Sawvel. Not sure what that will look like in 3 or 4 years, there are just too many moving parts...and too many things that will change.I'll never agree with how this went down. Reality is he wasn't really on a hc track until bj needed a promo. You can argue against that until you're blue in the face, but coincidences rarely just happen.
Now that he's in, I view it like all hc hires. There's always the hc honeymoon phase then games happen. If the Ws come everyone will anoint him the second coming of Roach and Burman a damn genius. If the Ls come, there will be 2 camps. 1 which is forgiving and will make lots of excuses for a 1st year hc and give it time vs those calling out the continuity b.s.
From a pure reality standpoint, probably 3 to 4 years before any meaningful judgement is determined.
I don't disagree that from an x and o and strategy standpoint, we should get a pretty good feel of PBJ's ability this year. While you certainly may be correct, in this day and age, with NIL and the Portal - it is more of a "win now" culture than anytime before. Barring some sort of legal violation...how it went down count's for about 2 cents. The only thing that matters is delivering wins. If his program wins...it doesn't matter how slimy and nepotistic the promotion was. If some immaculately meritocratic process of coach hiring gave us a loser, nobody will point to the perfect process and act like it was the "right" decision.I'll never agree with how this went down. I'm glad it doesn't matter to you. That's certainly one perspective. The only thing that matters is delivering wins. If his program wins...it doesn't matter how slimy and nepotistic the promotion was.
That is kind of my thought on this...the landscape of college football (especially) will be so much different in 3 or 4 years...I am not sure what the game will even look like. He may be a master now, and a dud later. Or vice-versa. Too many unpredictable variables that will change everything about the game, to even really worry about 2028 at this point. However, the ability to run and manage a program won't be obvious for another 3 or 4 years. Can he navigate recruiting, nil, etc. and field a competitive program?
Agree on that. We might not even be in the same conference or division by then. Could be with wsu/osu or northern co???That is kind of my thought on this...the landscape of college football (especially) will be so much different in 3 or 4 years...I am not sure what the game will even look like. A moralistic high horse in college sports gets you exactly nowhere. Again...barring something illegal, nobody cares. Is it right, wrong...in between? Who cares. If the pokes win a chip this year (seems very unlikely) can I count on you to diminish the accomplishment by bringing up the supposed injustice that was done when Jay was hired? I suspect not.I'm glad it doesn't matter to you. That's certainly one perspective.
Completely agree my man. I hate it, and it is not within my control...Agree on that. We might not even be in the same conference or division by then. Could be with wsu/osu or northern co???
I said I will never agree with that process regardless of the rest of cfb's actions. I'm glad you're OK with it. Seems like the majority are.A moralistic high horse in college sports gets you exactly nowhere. Again...barring something illegal, nobody cares. Is it right, wrong...in between? Who cares. Well... For sure the state of college football has jaded the way I view it. Being "ok" with it is just the same as being "ok" with business.... And it is a business. There is no moral valance here.I said I will never agree with that process regardless of the rest of cfb's actions. I'm glad you're OK with it. Seems like the majority are.
I always wish the best for UW even if employees pull some shady crap.
The Jeff Linder act on the sidelines was embarrassing. We have no discipline. We have brown pants, names on the back and no direction. I was so wrong. Can't recall a more down to earth coach at Wyoming. The kind of guy you would love to go to the bar to catch the game with. I just hope he can maintain a level of expected discipline.
