Wyoming Wrestling Kicks Off their Season!
Hey Wyoming Wrestling Fans! Sorry for the delay in writing the blog this week. For this blog I will focus on the Joey Novak match and the controversy as well as the WWCC dual; though I must admit I did not catch a lot of it due to streaming issues at the gym. Joey Novak For the second year in a row, Wyoming has sent a wrestler to the NWCA All-Star classic. Novak is a returning AA (5th place) and faced off against Stephen Little from Ark-Little Rock. Little bested Novak his FR year, however Novak, got his revenge last March. One thing I noticed last year after his first lost at NCAA was that Novak seemed not to be the aggressor, but his magical run in the consolation brackets he controlled the pressure, and guys could not keep up. I...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 9
From the desk of the UW AD Josh Allen is rewriting a good portion of the Buffalo Bills’ record books. The former University of Wyoming quarterback owns a number of different franchise high marks, and he set another one Sunday in a 28-21 victory over Kansas City. Allen tore up the Chiefs – who entered Sunday with the league’s second-best defense – through the air, going 23-for-26 for 273 yards and one score. The 88.5 percent completion percentage is the best ever in Bills’ history. Allen also did a little on the ground, carrying it six times covering 19 yards with two touchdowns. For the season, Allen is 157-for-223 for 1,833 yards with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s ran it 55 times totaling 280 yards with an additional...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 8
From the desk of the UW AD It appears as though the bye week occurred at a fortuitous time for Buffalo and former University of Wyoming quarterback, Josh Allen. The Bills, who had lost two in a row, throttled a hot Carolina team, 40-9, in Charlotte. Allen had one of his more mundane stat lines, but he didn’t need to be at his best for the pieces around him to thrive. He finished 12-for-19 for 163 yards with one touchdown, while rushing it a season-low three times totaling seven yards with two scores. For the season, Allen is 134-for-197 for 1,560 yards and 12 touchdowns with five interceptions. He’s added 261 yards on 49 carries with five scores for 5-2 Buffalo. The Bills host Kansas City in Week 9. Below is a list of all the former...
BS on Basketball - College of Idaho
The new look Cowboys had their home debut on Saturday, beating the reigning NAIA champion College of Idaho 111-63. There are plenty of articles recapping the game (see one from 7220 Sports here), so I'm not going to put out another one. Rather, I'll give you my thoughts on what I saw from the team. Please note that this was an exhibition game against an NAIA team, but there are still some good takeaways from this game. Naz Meyer is for real - Welcome to Laradise #2! It was immediately apparent that Naz is going to be a problem for other teams throughout the season. 16 seconds into the game he drained a 3, then followed that up with drawing a foul on the next possession on a fast break and sinking both free throws. The freshman ended...
History of the Border War
The Border War is an annual game between the Colorado State Rams and the Wyoming Cowboys. The history of the Border War started in 1899 when the Cowboys traveled to Fort Collins, CO to take on the Rams. The Cowboys lost that first contest 12-0, but this would be the first of many games played between the two schools. Laramie and Fort Collins are only 66 miles a part down highway 287. The game is longest continuous rivalry West of the Mississippi, and has been played over the course of three centuries. In 1968 the two schools decided to give the game a traveling trophy, a trophy that is called the Bronze Boot. The Bronze Boot is a size 8 jump boot worn by Colorado State alum Dan Romero Sr., a Vietnam War veteran. The idea of the bronze...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 7
From the desk of the UW AD Logan Wilson was in the news this week, but it wasn’t in the most flattering way. The former University of Wyoming linebacker was told his snaps would be reduced, making way for a rookie to play more. Wilson didn’t pout or make a scene, he just prepared like he always has and helped his understudy. And wouldn’t you know it, Wilson still produced at a high level in the Bengals’ 33-31 victory over Pittsburgh. He made four tackles and defended a pass. For the season, Wilson possesses 41 tackles, has defended four passes and owns a fumble recovery for 3-4 Cincinnati. Below is a list of all the former Wyoming Cowboys and how they did in Week 7. Frank Crum, Denver Broncos Crum was active and played for the first...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 6
From the desk of UW AD Before the season began, Chad Muma was looking for a new home. Jacksonville – the team that drafted him – had cut him, and the former University of Wyoming linebacker was wondering where his NFL journey would continue. Indianapolis signed the four-year veteran and after Week 1 inactive status, Muma has earned playing time and contributed. He made a tackle in the Colts’ 31-27 come-from-behind victory over Arizona on Sunday, giving him a tackle in four of the last five games while playing on special teams and getting reps at linebacker. The surprising 5-1 Colts travel to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Below is a list of all the former Wyoming Cowboys and how they performed in Week 6. Andrew Wingard...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 5
From the desk of UW AD: It’s too soon to say whether or not Monday night was a changing of the AFC guards. However, Andrew Wingard and Jacksonville made a strong case that it could be. The Jaguars rallied two different times – the last of which was with under two minutes to play – to knock off three-time defending AFC champion, Kansas City, 31-28. The victory moves Jacksonville to 4-1, which is tied atop the AFC with two other teams, Buffalo and Indianapolis, which also have former Wyoming Cowboys on the roster. Speaking to the Jaguars’ former Cowboy, he put forth another stout game, boasting seven tackles and one quarterback hit. That gives Wingard 29 tackles, one interception, two passes defended, one fumble recovery and one...
Pokes in the Pros: Week 4
From the desk of UW Athletics Two former University of Wyoming Cowboys squared off against one another Sunday during Week 4 of the NFL season. Whether it was Josh Allen evading Carl Granderson or Granderson chasing down Allen, the two did their best at their respective positions to help their team. In the end, it was Allen and Buffalo who prevailed to improve to 4-0 on the season, while New Orleans dropped to 0-4 on the year. Allen finished 16-for-22 for 209 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding 45 yards on seven carries and one score on the ground. Granderson piled up five tackles, one sack of Allen, two tackles for loss and one quarterback hit. For the season, Allen is 85-for-121 for 964 yards with seven...
