Man, just like that our 2025-26 season has come to an end. Talk about a ride to end the season that sets social media ablaze. I thought Wyoming had a real shot at Top 10, but a 12th place finish is nothing short of great. I am not sure how Wyoming wrestled some 15 duals and what felt like 22 starting lineups; somehow they did it and were successful. Let’s break down those AA runs. I know Gabe Willochell didn’t AA, but his run on the backside was incredible and came up about 30 seconds short of AA in the blood round. I truly believe his effort against Swiderski got Neitenbach and Carroll ready for their blood-round matches. I know your career didn’t begin at Wyoming Gabe but thank you for being a Cowboy. Eddie would win a tight 4-2...
I am smoked on eastern time but a quick write up: Luke Willochell had some tough draws today and came up just short in SV in the Consi’s. His season is done and was a great one for a TF. Riley Davis got a really nice win in Consi prelims but would come up just short next round and his season is done. He was rocking a big knee brace which was new; it looked like it hurt his lateral movement. Gabe Willochell lost a controversial first match but came back to win in the Consi. He will continue his path tomorrow Eddie and Joey are your first quarter finalists since 2022. Shoutout to Adam for that stat. Joey even got Coach Ford in a sport coat. Carroll lost his first bout but came back and launched the UVA wrestler into a pin. He...

Sundance Wicks said in his post game presser after the loss in the MW Tournament that the Cowboys would play in any post season tournament that would have them. He even posted a tweet Sunday afternoon, tagging the NIT and saying they were more than willing. That wish came true a short time later when Wyoming was announced as a participant in the Tulsa region. They will play the Wichita State Shockers on Saint Patrick's Day at 5:00 PM Mountain Time. You'll be able to catch the action on ESPNU. The Mountain West tournament didn't end up the way the Pokes had hoped. After an absolutely dismal shooting performance in the first half (32% from the floor, 12% from 3), Wyoming came roaring back in the 2nd half to make it interesting against...
Just like that, we are into the final weekend of the season. A lot of unknowns at the beginning of the season and a lot of different starting line-ups. In 2021, Wyoming finished 1-10 in duals and had a different starting lineup for each dual; I am aware of how many different lineups they had this year but finished 7-1 in Big12 duals. Talk about growth from the team and coaching staff. Wyoming had four automatic qualifiers (Gabe Willochell, Riley Davis, Eddie Neitenbach, Joey Novak) and two at-large bids (Luke Willochell and Christian Carroll). This is the most since the 2021 NCAA tournament where Wyoming brought 8 qualifiers. I believe this team can finish higher with less wrestlers; this is not a knock on the 2021 team as they...

A quick rundown of Day 1 at the Big 12s where your Wyoming Cowboys are currently in a tight team race between 4th and 8th sitting at 6th . The Cowboys and the weather showed some flair for the dramatics in Session II. Quick notes and story below: Sefton has been eliminated David Saenz has been eliminated, and his Wyoming career is over. Thank you for being a Cowboy. Luke Willochell has been eliminated and will await what looms for an at-large bid Christian Carroll has been eliminated after an uncharacteristic day. Big 12 is going to take two allocations for at-large at HWT so Carroll will also await an at-large bid. He has the resume, but I hate to wait for it after the season he has had. Now the dramatics! Midway through the...
On the March 4th WyoNation Roundup, Chad, Shea, and Bryan break down the latest with Wyoming Basketball and Wyoming Wrestling as both programs gear up for their conference tournaments. The crew discusses where Wyoming Basketball stands heading into the Mountain West Tournament, Wyoming Wrestling’s momentum heading into the postseason, and also talk about the newest class inducted into the Wyoming Athletics Hall of Fame.
Just like that the postseason is upon us; feels like just yesterday the boys were competing at National Duals and CKLV. A tall task awaits, but an experienced team is rolling into Tulsa. Based on seeds, Wyoming is projected to finish 5th and I believe they can finish above that, especially with Super Seniors who may not have had the regular season they wanted but are poised for a “Sam Mitchell” postseason run. Last year Sam Mitchell made a magical run to qualify for the NCAA. He made that run with close/gritty wins that may or may not have led to what my cardiologist described as a Myocardial infarction, I kid, but seriously. One match stands out to me and that was against Herrera from Iowa State to head to the 3rd place match AND an...
On this week’s WyoNation Roundup, Chad, Brad, and Bryan cover Wyoming Football offseason updates, the current state of Wyoming Basketball in Mountain West play, and how Wyoming Wrestling is shaping up for the postseason. They also break down key takeaways from the Burman town hall and discuss what NDSU officially joining the Mountain West means for the conference and for Wyoming moving forward.
Wyoming Wrestlers Saddle Up and Send the Sooners Home Another dual and another win! Wyoming is going to want that West Virginia dual back with the possibility of going 8-0 in Big 12s, but 7-1 is just as respectable. On Sunday we also honored six wrestlers for their final bout: Jared Hill, Gabe Willochell, David Saenz, Dylan Catlin, Brett McIntosh, and Jack Braman. I am not sure who won the coin toss on Sunday but was interested to see the dual start at 157. Jared was an OU transfer to Wyoming; I am sure there was tension in the UniWyo for this match. Jared just wanted to extend his last home match by heading to SV and a famous body lock. Great win Cowboy. Sloan Swan went down really early 6-0 and tried to storm back but came...
Lights Out in Greely: Wyoming Wrestlers Tuck the Bears in for Hibernation The Boys rode into Greeley last night and escaped with a 25-10 dual win. Wyoming was without regular starters 157 Jared Hill and HWT Christian Carroll; Carroll seemed a little banged up last weekend so probably worth the rest. Some of the Cowboys got back on the winning track while others let the Bears dictate the match. Sefton got back into his winning ways with a 3-0 victory; he probably wanted some back swipes but never got the opportunity. Luke Willochell faced the lone ranked wrestler for the Bears, Serrano, and would come up short in a 15-3 loss. Luke didn’t back down and was in on shots, but Serrano was so quick to counter. David Saenz continues to build...
The Boys are Settling In – and Stacking Wins Wyoming took this last week to re-adjust, and the results speak for themselves on the mat. NDSU was coming off a dual win against UVU while on a six dual winning streak; they were buzzing. Wyoming sent out three 125s during introductions: Owens, Sefton, and Harrison. I thought Harrison was out of matches to preserve his RS, but it was Owens who made the start at 125. Wyoming guys are firing off on shots but just come up short in these matches I think one win here would go a long way at 125. Tucker would lose via TF. The Luke match started out slow, internally I thought oh man not a flat dual again, but Luke was aggressive while NDSU backed away a lot of the dual. Even Gabe, Luke’s older...
High Fives. Big Smiles. Wrestling Wins. Lasting Impact Last Saturday I was concerned the season grind was starting to affect the team. A weird effort at WVU and last week against Oregon State where guys were rolling on the mat after a whistle and were just flat! Coaches changed workouts for them, and did they ever respond last night. The team might have got so much into a pre-match routine during the week that when the travel delayed them getting home, it threw the team for a loop. I spoke to Coach Branch and Coach Ford about it last night, and it was still fresh on their minds and weren’t sure how they would look. Being in the room, the team seemed loose, and the fans were filling in to make the UniWyo a loud place. Wyoming won the...

Wyoming vs Oregon State I think a lot of us struggled to watch a flat effort, and I was up in the air writing a blog because it didn’t feel like there was much to write about. I watched a video of UNI Coach Schwab talking to his team about a rough weekend and his team going 0-2. Added to that was Coach Branch sending a picture to X riding a horse out in the prairie taking some reflection. My son Jameson continues to ask me when the Cowboys play again; he will ask me to pull up old videos and watch and cheer just like they are live in action. It was mentioned to me that it is better to have these “efforts” in Jan vice March when everything is on the line. We as fans (a lot of us are coaches in sports) have a hard time with effort...
I knew this dual would be a tall task for Wyoming, and they would need everyone to be their best to escape Morgantown with a win. West Virginia had some gamesmanship with a gymnastic match going on right behind the Wyoming bench; talk about a distraction. Even with missed opportunities, Wyoming had a shot late to win the dual but would come up short in a 21-15 loss. Let’s break it down. West Virginia wanted to press Wyoming early after winning the toss and choosing to start at 141. David Saenz was the aggressor but got taken to his back and found himself in a quick 6-0 deficit. He worked himself back in the match but came up short in a 10-4 loss. Battling to a decision is big in a dual when you are the underdog and facing a returning...
