About 3 rows in front of me and just a little to my left, two young (college age) ladies started arguing. Not sure if they were wives/sisters/girlfriends of wrestlers but both were very animated! It didn't take very long and then they started scrapping in the stands and it was a good one. Nobody really stepped in to break it up until security came and escorted them out. Something I will definetly never forget!
WWC wrestling merge into the Big 12 ?

If you ever need to laugh, just remember there was some idiot who wanted Bohl fired after 2 seasons.

Sorry guys, don't meen to monopolize this post but had to add one more thing. When security escorted these two ladies out, they got a HUGE standing ovation! Maybe that's why I love this sport. When the wives/sisters/girlfriends are tougher than most guys, it does the heart of an old Warhorse like myself good! LOL

You know I was there in Omaha, too, and this is bringing back memories. I think we were on the opposite side of the arena and had no clue what was going on.American Horse wrote:Sorry guys, don't meen to monopolize this post but had to add one more thing. I think there is a lot of substance to it, as somebody mentioned before, the Big XII is down to four wrestling members in the conference and needs additional members so wrestlers can automatically qualify for the NCAA Tournament. It seems ridiculous that programs like Oklahoma State and Iowa State get guys in to the tournament as at large guys, not for winning their weight in their conference. This would be a huge win for all parties involved.American Horse wrote:Seems we are all pretty much in agreement this would be a good move for UW? My question is, is there any substance to this rumour? I remember hearing this same thing as long as 3 years ago. Is there anyone out there "in the know that can enlighten us? Are there currently talks going on or are there plans for them in the future? Is there any "meat" to this or is it just one of those things that comes up every year?
Unfortunately, not in the know. On some of the Big XII boards I have read that all that is left is approval by the presidents of the institutions with an anticipated early March announcement. This makes it sound further along than any of the previous rounds.American Horse wrote:Seems we are all pretty much in agreement this would be a good move for UW? Two things that make it appear more likely this time around. Two years ago the Big XII did not have any affiliate members and had no mechanism for considering them or adding them. Since then the have developed a mechanism and last year added several affiliate members in women's rowing. Also two years ago, the Big XII still had an exemption to allow their wrestling tournament to serve as a qualifier even with only four teams. That exemption is now gone (last year and this). There is a lot of angst among the Big XII fans that they have potential NCAA tournament wrestlers now missing the tournament. This has also increased the pressure to get this done.

From what I have read and been digging into it's basically a done deal but won't likely happen until 2016 and can't be officially announced until March or later due to contractual obligations between Universities and Conferences.
We'll see how long it takes but looks like it was already approved voting wise.

Although they aren't "automatic" bids, the winner of each bracket for the Big XII is going to go. Last year, they sent at least 2 wrestlers in every weight class to Nationals. They sent 3 in 3 classes and all 4 in 3 other classes. I would imagine if this merger went through, the conference would get probably 4 auto bids in every weight class, certainly a minimum of 3 in each one; with others getting 5, maybe even 6 auto bids.
