YOUR All-Time Wyoming Football Fantastic Five?

Yabadabadoo

Well-known member
This is a very subjective question, and much of it has to do with your own personal Wyoming football timeline.

In consideration of such I thought it would be an interesting question: Ranking them from 1 to 5 (with #1 being the best) who are your all-time Wyoming Fantastic Five that you have seen play at The War in Laramie over the years?

Consider this your Wyoming Football Mount Rushmore.

#5 - Patrick Chuckwurah
#4 - Ryan Christopherson
#3 - Jovon Bouknight
#2 - Brett Smith
#1 - Marcus Harris

Ahhh, Patrick Chuckwurah...we could use him on our defense this coming Saturday.

Jovon boughknight and Brett smith are funny names to see on top 5 lists- unless you've only been watching for 10 years. Both were very statistically productive though so maybe I get it. Shoot now that start thinking of 5 it is tough to balance talent, production, and just favorites. Jovon with his production/stats makes a good case for top 5 wr in UW history but top 5 overall is uh....... Smith was a gamer but you should take into account the offense he had. Running ability and playmaking but had he played in a tiller type offense his ability to throw the ball would have meant he never saw the field

Talent
1- Malcolm Floyd
2- wendling
3- Casey Bramlet
4- Scottie Vines
5- chuckwura (him as a human and his brain however dq him from overall list)

Production
1- Brian Lee
2- Marcus harris
3- Yarborough
4- Mitch Donahue
5- christopherson

Favorites
1- Mitch 49
2- Brian Lee
3- Malcolm Floyd
4- Casey Bramlet
5- Lee Vaughn

Overall
It's WR at UW And if you pick 5 players you have to pick Ryan Yarbrough or Marcus Harris
2- Mitch Donahue
3- Brian Lee
4- Malcolm Floyd
5- Casey Bramlet

I should have also asked those responding to this -- to indicate the year since they have been a fan and following Pokes football to avoid much of what you wrote...I did indicate that it was a subjective topic and that much of it would be defined by the tenure of your Wyoming fandom - such as my own which began with the 2002 season.

1.Ken fantetti. 1978, he dominated CSU at FOCO. He won the sheep toss event held prior to the coin flip. Not to mention a stellar career and a few years in the nfl.
2.Lawrence Gaines is at the limits of wyo memory. I think I got his name right
3.Conrad Dobler. You must be a tough sob to play the way he did and not get taken out.
4.Jay novacek
5.brett. ya'll keep thinking this year's team is the worst ever. I saw brett's team play idaho at moscow when U I was the worst, ever. Without brett, we would have lost that game and many, many more. Brett really was that good a college qb.

In no order:

Ryan Yarborough
Ryan Christopherson
Marcus Harris
Mitch Donahue
Sean Flemming

Yes, a kicker.

From my time in Laramie:

1. Mitch Donahue

2. Ryan Yarborough

3. Marcus Harris

4. Dabby Dawson

5. Dave Edeen

You could probably ask me the same question 10 times and get 10 different lists. The top 3 on mine would never change.

I was born in the 80s...so my players are skewed from mid 90s and on. I heard stories or watched old film of previous years. My favorite five have nothing to do with "Who I think was the best or most talented." To me, they are most memorable and I enjoyed watching them play. Several I had interaction with and was impressed.

Guys that could've gotten votes from me: Weston Johnson, Al Rich, Hoost Marsh, Devin Moore, Jay Stoner, Ryan Christopherson, Patrick Chukwurah, John Wendling, Chris Pro, Adam Goldberg, Mitch Unrein, multiple others...

That said, I would say:
#5 - Marcus Harris
#4 - Casey Bramlet
#3 - Ryan Yarborough
#2 - Brett Smith
#1 - Jovon Bouknight

Started following the Pokes for real during Roach's first season.

This is tough because the best teams to watch had some defensive players who you just knew were going to make a stop or a big play when we really needed it. How about a Top 5 for each the offense and for the defense?

Defense
Brian Lee
Jim Talich - #2 All time in career tackles
Mitch Donahue
John Burrough
Anyone from Dana Dimmel's or Joe Glenn's defensive front sevens. Those guys could stand toe-to-toe with anyone.

Offense
Brett Smith (Every play was a potential scoring play)
Randy Welniak (As dual-threat as dual threat can be)
Marcus Harris
Ryan Christopherson
Brian Hill (I think he will end up being an all-time great)

Am I the only person perplexed by seeing mention of Malcom Floyd on some of these lists???

Don't get me wrong, he has been a great representative of UW in his years in the NFL, and he was a good WR at Wyo; but the fact is that that's all he was, good, not great.

I realize this is a subjective list, so opinions do count, but I would argue that not only was Floyd not the best WR on the team when he played, he wasn't even the 2nd best receiver on the team! Don't forget that he played alongside Javon Bouknight and Ryan McGuffey.

IMO he has been a FAR better professional player than he was a college player. He certainly had great potential, but he didn't start to excel until his 4th year in the league.

As for my :twocents:
In no particular order:

Marcus Harris
Javon Bouknight
Brett Smith
Patrick Chukwurah
Adam Goldberg

Honorable Mention: John Wendling

In no real order

Brett Smith
John Fletcher
John Wendling
Ward Dobbs
Marcus Harris

Obviously a little more modern than you old timers haha. Started following about as soon as I could understand sports, around the Vegas bowl. Wendling is my personal all time favorite

Hilarious. You could argue stats for a career of getting the most out of their talent level but arguing that either much less both were better is nuts. Talent evaluation is hard though and making things look easy is hard to see. Malcolm Floyd is one of the most physically gifted players ever at WYO and clearly better than jovon or Ryan McGuffey
