WyoNation Blog: UW Basketball scheduling

The MWC/MVC challenge is over now though (12/13 was the last season), so maybe we could schedule some games independently.

Well there you go. I would put two teams from the Valley on the schedule each year if possible. Are they going to add a team to replace Creighton?

I tend to think that regional scheduling is the way to go

Utah
bWHYu
Weber State
Montana
Montana State
Anything Idaho D1
Anything Colorado D1 (like Denver)
Anything Dakota's D1

Throw in Nebraska and Kansas Div 1 schools as well.

(fixed it)

I'm just giving you sh*t.

There are plenty of regional schools that we could play that are actually good, and that have decent RPIs.
Teams like Kansas, Kansas State, Witchita State, Nebraska, CU, Denver, BYU, Utah, Weber State, even Mizzou is not that far, along with St. Louis. Butler is in Indiana. What about Indiana? If McClain stays there for next season, do you think he would be willing to help get us on the schedule?

If we are only looking for 12 games a year to schedule, we should be getting at least 4 or 5 of those teams a season, along with a tourney, with some pretty good competition.
We could get plenty of teams that are Big 12, Big10, Pac12, and of the mid majors, a lot of teams that are in the Big Dance or NIT quite often.

I don't see why we couldn't get Florida or Clemson as well.

I assume that the vast majority of the teams you mention will not come to Laramie, even in a 2 for 1 situation.

Obviously we do have series with CU and DU and I am sure we could work out a home and home with Weber.

Remember what Shyatt said just the other day. He can't get any "high majors" to even accept a 2 for 1. I will trust that he is telling the truth.

I think we outta do a NW trip next season. Go to play, Gonzaga and Washington State. Then swing down to Oregon State.

Not without return games.

I like how Burman schedules in football. Almost all are home and home games. Heck he got Oregon, Nebraska, Texas, and Mizzou to come to Laramie.

Basketball schedules are made by the coach.
Games I would love to see us get going as home and home contracts would be:
Regional: Montana, S. Dak. St., N. Dak. St., Nebraska, Colorado (rivalry), Weber St.
Western/ Top in their conf: LBSU, Hawaii, Murray St., Ariz, ASU, W. Mich., Oral Roberts, Wisc. Green-Bay, NM St., LTU
Top Conferences: Florida, Clemson, Missou, UCLA
WCC: Gonzaga, Santa Clara, St. Mary's
Continue MVC challenge: Already played Ind. St, Bradley, Ill.St. and N. Iowa. Which means WSU and Creighton will be soon approaching.

All these teams are usually near the top of their league and would help with our rpi and OOC strength.
I would love to see the day that KU and KSU and the like would make a trip to Laramie, but I doubt it.

I only want a NW trip so I can see some games next season.
So you're all set for OSU next fall?

I think so. My lady and I gotta make a decision soon, but it is looking that way.
Of course...next week everything might change again so who knows.

It would be cool to see Kansas or K-State, along with Nebraska, Witchita St., Wyo, and CU all play in a little tourney.
5 teams, do a round robin, get 4 games during x-mas break. Or do 4 of those teams and have a bracket.
Get a team from the MWC, MVC, Big10, Big12, and PAC12.
And they are all regional.
