i'd like that being able to play Ohio St, but Akron would be better, Florida teams, I'm sure Larry can pull some strings to have us go to Gainesville, as long as we get some more quality teams next year

I find it odd only Larry Brown has returned Shyatt's call and agreed to the home and home series. Would have thought the Florida HC would have tried to help set something up, considering he's supposed to be Shyatt's friend.

I agree. I liked our series with the Akron Zips and I think it is a city that we need to continue to recruit. I spent a year of my schooling at Akron. Nice campus, but not in a good location at all (a little scary to step off campus). Although, about everyone I met there was an Ohio State fan (irregardless to the fact that they went to Akron). So maybe Larry really wants to play Ohio State rather than Akron.

I think getting to play Ohio State this fall is the perfect. They lose some key players, are coming off back to back Elite 8s, and Nance will get to be seen by people from around the entire state of Ohio, and when he goes off and beats tOSU everyone in Ohio will be saying WHY DIDN'T WE GET HIM.
And worst case scenario....we get killed like CSU did @ Duke 2 seasons ago, but it still boosts our RPI a shit ton, and gets us ready for MWC play more than playing someone like Akron.
I would love to play Florida as well. Billy D should grow some stones and agree to a 2 for 1 AT LEAST. And the old Clemson boosters should remember Shyatt, and schedule something.

Beating Ohio State and Florida in the same season, on the road would be the biggest thing for this program since...beating Gonzaga in the Tourney?

Oh how the tide of optimism on this board changes. Last week this was a team with little to no future and now were beating florida and ohio state in the same season. I am in no way bad mouthing as I drink the Brown and Gold Koolaid every chance I get and sing my praises of the Pokes from mountain tops. Its just funny how the mood has switched with one interview with Papa Shy.

Let's go play FGCU for the Florida School imo.
I think we land a player like Rashad Muhammed coupled with the new athletic players we have coming in with guys like Nance, Adams, and Hankerson and it would certainly be fun to watch! I agree

That is one poster. I am sure 99% of us are doubtful that this team could go on the road and beat Ohio State and Florida in the same season.

Most of us support the team. Some are delusional.

The train is coming off the tracks with this discussion. The Ohio State game is only there to get Nance a game in Ohio and the to boost the RPI is just a bonus. All schools in Ohio were asked and only Ohio State said yes. As for a Florida game for Hankerson I bet all Florida schools have been asked and we will probably end up with a game versus a Stetson, FAU, UCF or North Florida a middle to lower tier program.

So back to the overall question, who would you like the Cowboys to schedule next season?

Not sure why we don't have a home and home with Montana.. would be a boost for both schools.. Montana has been to the dance two years in a row and owns a 2005 1st round win over Nevada. Though, UM would drag the RPI down.

Forget anything but Division I schools. Who wants to watch a match against a cooking school? And what good does it do for the program?

Who is saying we are gonna beat them? 're read what I said. I said beating them would be the biggest thing for this program since gnzaga

With the bigger conference schedule, there is little reason to schedule non D1 opponents IMO. It sucks but the reality is that few "BCS" schools are willing to travel to Laramie. I think we should try to play in a neutral court tournament every year that include a few of those.

I'd like to see us schedule more Missouri Valley Conference teams honestly. I think those schools would provide good tests before conference play and I think we should be able to do home and homes with them. The women schedule quite a few Big Sky teams. Maybe the men should look at adding more Big Sky games.

Here is what I would like to see (realistically, taking into account existing arrangements) for the next 2 years. 12 OOC games per year:

13-14

HOME:

Non-D1 (only 1, first regular season game)
3-Game Home Tournament (similar to Global Hoops Showcase last year with 3 low-mid D1 teams)
South Dakota
Northern Colorado
SMU

AWAY:

Colorado
Denver
Ohio State
Best 2 for 1 we can land (possibly with a Florida School, or semi-regional high major such as Nebraska, Minnesota, etc.)

Neutral:

South Dakota (Rapid City)

14-15

HOME:

Non-D1
Colorado
Denver
Home game from 2 for 1 package noted above
Regional Home and Home 1st game (to be returned in 15-16). Montana or Creighton would be my top choices.

AWAY:
Northern Colorado
SMU
Road Money Game (if the 2 for 1 is not with a Florida school, then see if Miami(FL) will play us in a one-off at their place, otherwise maybe some other high profile team, possibly in a recruiting area. I thought about Georgetown or Maryland since Cooke is from the DC area)
Home and Home with best opponent possible (I am wondering if New Mexico St. might be a good option, they might be needing games) - This opponent would return to Laramie in 15-16.

Neutral:

3 game holiday tournament (Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, etc. there are several options)

I think our 14-15 team will be better than 13-14, so I would like to see us schedule up that year with a strong neutral court tourney .

Wouldn't hurt to get Weber St on the schedule.. they're playing for the CIT championship against East Carolina this week.

They had a lottery pick last year. I'm all for scheduling schools like Weber!

Others:
Creighton
Nebraska
Montana
Wichita
Tulsa

Now we are talking folks, some great ideas here.

There is no reason for us to play non-D1 schools it's a complete no winner. Doesn't help the team, doesn't please the fans and has no impact on the RPI. We need to get as many regional schools as possible on the schedule. I like the suggestions of Weber State and Wichita State as well as more games with the Valley but I wonder if those chances are limited due to the MWC v MVC challenge that is currently in place.

The MWC/MVC challenge is over now though (12/13 was the last season), so maybe we could schedule some games independently.
