Can you explain what this means? If he had a bloody cut or something I assume they could have just wrapped it up, any insight?

There are some skin issues (like ringworm) that can just be covered up. But there are others (I think herpes is one) that the wrestler cannot compete with, even if it's covered. Don't know what exactly he had, but it was probably something along those lines.

My guess would be staph infection. You cannot compete with a staph infection and they often take weeks to eliminate. That is the only negative to wrestling as it is a breeding ground for those types of skin conditions.

I think that is just a specific type of staph infection. Whatever it is, it could derail his ability to compete at the Big 12s. Even if it is cleared up by then, not practicing for a few weeks (other than cardio) isn't conducive to on the mat success.
