WYOMING Uniforms: The prairie gold look

Wanted to get a general consensus from some of you Poke faithful...let me preface by saying that I hated them like poison, but what were your thoughts on when the POKES switched from the traditional brown & gold colors and went with the 'prairie gold' look back in 2000 for a few seasons?

The reason I bring this up is because I had a conversation with someone at The War this past Saturday about this very topic.

I became a POKES fan back in 2002 - I know lots of you here have been COWBOYS fans a lot longer than that...so your thoughts on this subject do interest me greatly.

ALSO: What were your initial observations the first time you were able to see them?

Thank you..

That was an abortion.. that was my freshman year. Student body hated it, they changed the logo too, and that also sucked ass. They debuted a new mascot that year.. a coyote.. UW basically f'ed that thing up from start to finish. But we won a bowl game in those jerseys!

Love them. Won two MWC titles in hoops with them.

Lol.... Leave it to Beaver :thumb:

I love the traditional brown and gold myself. I didn't hate the prairie gold but I didn't like it either.

That was a stupid idea. I hated it. Our colors are unique. You can search all the soccer teams on the globe, every team in America, and pretty much anyone with colors anywhere. You won't find our colors anywhere else.

That prairie dirt color was god awful.

In addition, the change to prairie dirt just happened to coincide with the worst 15 years of football since the early 1900's.

I couldn't be happier we changed back. That was the worst damn decision Wyoming ever made.

I have been a Wyoming fan for over 50 years.....those prairie gold uniforms made me throw up in my mouth a little....people have always been able to spot a Wyoming fan because of the brown and gold. Some things should never change.

the worst part is they went all in with the prairie gold........there's still publications using it out there

Prarie gold was a nightmare. Our colors are based off of the native brown eyed susan flower, and they should have never been switched. I was more relieved than excited when we switched back to the traditional brown and gold.

I might be in the minority but the Prairie Gold road basketball unis we wore the NCAA tourney year were awesome, even if they were difficult to distinguish from the opponents' home whites (check YouTube video from the Gonzaga game to see what I'm talking about). I always thought we should have been wearing those at home and brown on the road.

Otherwise, Prairie Gold was a disasterbacle.

Just because that color combo happens to coincide with a positive memory does not mean that it was ever a good color

The Prairie Gold was an AWFUL idea. They not only changed tradition but they looked terrible as well. Never take away our game day gold again.

No, I was on record at the time liking them. I just thought they should have been our home uni. The color was a very light gold, it wasn't the medium tan that was the "prairie gold" officially. And I much prefer old school brown and gold overall.

Just bought this hat from bookstore. Is it not prairie gold? Looks sharp. I didn't hate the colors as much as others.

I'll probably get crucified for this (again), but I actually prefer the prairie gold color. Thought it looked much more like the natural color you see across Wyoming, and looked sharp on attire.

I get where everybody else is coming from. History, tradition and all that, and I'm ok with the new old colors. I just really liked the prairie gold.

Crucify away...
