Wyoming @ TCU

I really believe we were looking ahead to UNLV and we overlooked TCU. All the talk about the quest for 10,000 was part of the cause but all in all we just played shitty and our defense or lack thereof killed us.

That makes me think of the old Beavis and butthead names - Tiny Johnson, Major Woody, Dick Hertz, but I can't think of a good first name for that ref! I'll have to think about it. It might take my mind off that game.
 
I didn't get to watch the game, but I have always thought we were maybe getting ahead of ourselves as fans with the recent talks of NCAA tournament etc. etc.. We are forgetting where we are coming from and the fact is we really lack quality depth. That will rear its head from time to time and we were bound to drop a game or two on the road to perceived lesser teams in conference.
 
Can never overlook a road conference game. We played bad. We looked great at times when we were getting the ball inside, but we didn't have shit from outside.
 
Is there a luckier team in the MWC than San Diego State? Almost lost to Boise State at home.....game winning shot for BSU rimmed out. Wyoming needs to keep going hard.
 
Zero (none, nil, nada,zilch) bench points. How often does that happen? No way can a team be succesfull with that outcome, methinks.
 
Couple obvservations, first he may not have been able to help push us over the hump, but not having Nance hurt us. Also, it almost appeared like TCU took our defensive game plan against CSU (pressuring the point and defending the 3 point line hard) and turned it around on us. We needed to pound the ball inside more, however the constant pressure on Luster prevented that from happening.
 
I don't know why we can't beat those douches in Ft Worth!! They suck and they sucked during the game. We just sucked more.
 
I haven't questioned Shyatt all year. But I would have pulled Luster last night. Ironically, he might be our worst foul shooter on the floor at the end of the game. Let the other kid play. Luster had 3 travels and his man shot lights out from 3.

Also, Martinez has shot the ball terribly from 3 in every league game except for Boise st.. It's time to take away his green light to shoot at will. He was 2-12 last night and every shot was from 3. I would rather see Washington shoot 3's than Martinez.
 
You would have pulled him and done what? I'm sure you remember how bad we were at bringing the ball up the court without Luster in Boise just a few days ago? And I'm pretty sure that's why he kept Luster in the game. because if Luster was having that bad of a night, how much worse could it have been without him?

Grabau could have played. Cruz can play a little point, so can Martinez. It's ridiculous that we have one experienced point guard, and he's the weakest link on the team. I can't believe that Shyatt has not tried to come up with alternatives to Luster. Considering Gilmore is out for academic reasons and may not return this season, then we have to have alternatives. Especially when we get to the tournament and have to play on consecutive days (if we advance).

Are you kidding. Grabau had a decent game in boise, but still couldn't even dribble the ball up court or pass without it being deflected. Cruz is a terrible point. Martinez is to tall to play point. The three that were stated were the three that allowed BSU to stay in the game due to turnovers.
And what do you want Shyatt to do per say? Magically turn somebody on the team into a great point leader in days leading up to a game. Shyatt was dealt this hand when he took the job and has done a damn fine job to boot. We are extremely shallow in some areas.

We have known all along where our vulnerabilities lie. For some reason most teams shoot better at home than then do on the road.

I was disappointed with last night's loss and assumed that we would win that game. It was there for the taking if the guys make their layups and free-throws. Personally, I do not like taking a 3 on a possession immediately following a missed 3--especially if the opposing team scored on the intervening possession.

One thing that I have note heard Coach discuss this season that was a big part of his Theory class back in 1997 is the importance of preventing scores on consecutive possessions while scoring on consecutive possessions. If a team scores on a possession, that raises the stakes for the defense on the next possession. If our team scores on one trip down the court, then a score on the next possession becomes more critical for momentum purposes.
 
Luster had a bad game - bad decisionmaking and out and out sloppiness on offense. He was still really impressive on the defensive end, it has to be said. Martinez had a miserable game shooting - he got good looks and they didn't go in. We can probably survive one of those things happening but not both. This was the best Waddell game in some time, and Leonard was Leonard, so its frustrating our backcourt issues led to an avoidable loss.

Also, I am not sure why we don't give Shakir a chance to run the point in situations with Luster out.

Magic johnson could move and maneuver , Martinez is like a stick out there. he moves to tight. if he would loosen up and still be able to control the ball, then I'd say height is not a factor.
 
I think it's safe to say too many bad things happened and we just couldn't cover from it. Martinez did have a shitty night and Luster did as well. But all in all Martinez nearly always puts up a lot of 3's while walking away with that least 3. Last night the shots just weren't going down.

The team is still far beyond what we figured we would be cheering for that being said I hope they they are shooting lights out this Saturday.
 
1 out of 3 travels should have been called. None of JD's fouls should have been called. His night being bad was a product of piss poor officiating
