Keys to winning?
1. Good blocking by the o-line. Run blocking, they need to open up holes against a large D-line. Pass blocking, they need to give Kirk time to read the defense and find an open guy.
2. Get rid of the ball. When Kirk is being pressured and has time to run a little, he just needs to throw the ball away instead of holding on to it and getting sacked.
3. Ball security. No turnovers. When running the ball or when Kirk is being sacked, he needs to hold onto that ball with an iron grip. And he needs to not force any throws into tight or double coverage.
4. Good offensive play calling. No getting cutesy with trickeration and what not, as that has not worked yet to this point. Also, no throwing the ball on 3rd and 1 or 2. Just hand the ball off to either of our playmaking RBs, and chances are they get the 1st down.
5. Disrupt the back field. In the Tampa 2 Defense, an aggressive and quick d-line is the most important part of the defense, as it is a defense that rarely blitzes. The d-line needs to not only get into the backfield, but needs to get some tackles for loss and sacks, or force bad throws.
6. Good tackling. The last 2 games, tackling has been an issue. A lot of arm tackles and missed tackles altogether. This needs to happen especially in the secondary, as Graham is actually a pretty decent QB. So coverage and open field tackling are quite important.
7. Last, but certainly not least, the offense needs to go on long sustained drives throughout the game to give the defense plenty of rest. All too often we've had 3 and outs throughout games for various reasons. Even if it means dinks, dunks, screens, and ground and pound, do it. We need our defense to stay fresh, not only for this game, but for the entire season.
