I posted something about this in another thread, but it deserves it's own topic.
Today's opinion piece in the Wyoming Tribune Eagle is just the opening salvo. The people that oppose Wyoming athletics will do everything in their power to ensure Wyoming doesn't waste another dollar on Wyoming athletics. In fact, they're probably going to push for Wyoming athletics budget cuts.
This means war. You make think that's an overstatement, but if you want to see the Cowboys succeed, that's exactly the case. It's time for the members of the Wyoming athletics community to come together as a team and destroy our opposition.
We need people that are gifted in writing to bombard the newspapers with articles that explain the importance of athletics to the university and the state. Even if you aren't gifted with writing ability, newspaper articles like the one printed in the Wyoming Tribune Eagle need to be flooded with comments that explain why the author is wrong. The press is a liberal organization and the bleeding hearts are sure to have an advantage in the press.
It's time for us to finally organize and execute pressure on the state legislature, the governor, the joint appropriations committee, and the Board of Trustees. Find out who these people are. If they're your representative, contact them and let them know that your vote will depend on their decision. One letter would be great, but continued pressure on these people from multiple contacts is the only way to make them feel like their jobs are in jeopardy. If you don't live in Wyoming, contact the university, the board of trustees, and the A.D. Let them know that you're fed up with losing and your financial support depends on their decisions.
Tom Burman needs to know, and I think he now does, that we won't accept any outcome aside from full funding of Wyoming athletics. We as Wyoming donors will commit to increase our support if he commits to pressuring and delivering on the recommendations of the consulting report. His job depends on giving Wyoming the necessary tools to be successful. Those tools are an increase of coaching salaries, an increase of recruiting budget, and UW changing their policy to make it easier for all students to transfer to Wyoming and have their credits apply to a degree program.
I'm tired of Wyoming losing. It's been too long without success. I'm willing to do anything necessary to help forward the mission to bring success to Wyoming athletics. For me, that means writing the Casper Star, the Laramie Boomerang, and the Wyoming Tribune Eagle. It means increasing my donation to the CJC. It means contacting my representatives, the governor, members of the board of trustees, and the athletics director to make it crystal clear that my financial support and my vote will hinge solely on their decisions regarding the future of my beloved Pokes.
Today is time for action Poke fans. I beg you, get involved and make a difference. This is not a war we can afford to lose.
