Wyoming All-Time Team?

Who would be on it? I'm thinking a QB, RB with a backup or two, 3 WRs, and a TE.

WRs and TE are no problem. Harris, Yarborough, Bouknight, and Novacek at TE. RB would probably be D-Mo and Jim Kiick (good balance of power and speed running with those two). QB though is a bit harder. Maybe Welniak? O-line, no clue. How about the 1995 or 1996 O-lines?

For defense, not sure. Formation could be 3-4 or 4-3. Maybe compile a list of the Wyoming greats at each position and go from there? And hopefully they'll be good sized.

Not to be a dick, but it seems like we have this topic every other week.

I'm more concerned about our current O-Line/ D-Line starters than our past ones.

No we haven't. And can't do much about the current lines until the season starts in 2 weeks. So I figured, why not a bit of fun speculation while waiting for the season opener?

I think Steve Scifres was one of the top O-linemen the Pokes have had in a long time...Adam Goldgberg was pretty solid as well. That's basically from my generation though, don't know much pre-1986ish though. I'm sure there were some really good linemen from the glory years in the 50's and 60's that I don't have a clue about.
I agree about the WR and TE though. Harris, Yarborough, Bouknight are all good Novacek is a no brainer. I think that Christopherson was a beast of a running back. I can't imagine the yards he would've accumulated if he would've played in a more balanced offense. As it was his senior year he was over 1400 yards.
Defense wise you have to have Mitch Donahue on the team.

The subject is "All-Time", so I have to include Dewey McConnell. He was Wyoming's first All-American and played in the 50s. He also played both sides of the ball - receiver on offense & secondary on defense. This guy was one tough dude - got cancer in the 70s and went home to die with no treatments or medication. He was also a very likable person. I'm proud to have known him and his wife as friends.

Dabby Dawson has to be included in the running back discussion. Galand Thaxton would have to be in the linebacker discussion. All of the guys listed above I agree with. I could add more but i'm too lazy to think right now haha

Okay, so here's where we're at so far.
WRs-Harris, Bouknight, Yarborough, McConnell (for 4 WRs on the field)
TE-Who else but the College Hall of Famer Novacek
O-line-Scifres, Goldberg (we need at least 3 more)
RB-Moore, Christopherson, Dawson (what were Dawson's stats?), and Kiick, Talboom.

Defense
LB-Galand Thaxton (2-3 more)
DB-McConnell (3 more)
DL-Donahue (2-3 more).

ST
DePoyster (Kicker/Punter)

Sorry, forgot about Talboom.

Maybe add Fletcher and Knapton to D-line? Or as backups?

Question, how big was Ryan the Rhino?

I will have to look Dabby Dawsons stats up to be exact but I know he gained over 1,000 yards one year and over 1,200 the other year I believe. He played two years for Wyoming. Here is a good article about him back when Wyoming was about to play in the Holiday bowl in 1988 against Barry Sanders and Oklahoma St. Dabby and Barry were buddies from High School.

That's actually pretty cool that Dabby Dawson and Barry Sanders were old friends, and both became Cowboys too.

Also, Dawson was a speed back, really good speed considering what Sanders said there.

If it's "All Time", then you need to look at UW's Hall of Fame members from the distant past, like, Eddie "Boom Boom" Talboom. He's in the College Football Hall of Fame. Others like Jay Novacek, Jim Kiick, and even Conrad Dobler should be under consideration.

Dabby had 1119 yards and 9 TD with a 7.4 average in 1988 and had 1005 with 6 TD and a 5.5 average in 1989.
Christopherson was 5-11 237.

Damn. Christopherson could have been a fullback in an option team. Big boy. Granted, I'm the same height and a bit heavier.

My all time team missing a few...

head coach: Paul Roach
O-coord: Joe Tiller
D-coord: Breske

Defense 3-4: Donahue, Boyle, Fletcher
Linebackers: Chuckwarra, Dobbs, Thaxton, Hendricks, Talich
Cornerbacks:D-Martin, McConnel
Safteys: Al Rich, John Wendling

Offense: Qb: Wallwork, Welniak
RB: Jim Kiick, Devin Moore
Wr: Harris, Bouknight
Slot: Yarborough
TE: Novacek
Line: Scifers, Goldberg, Dobbler...... need some more here...

Kicker: J-Depoyster
Kickreturner: Devin Moore

that team would make me crap in my pants a little bit

Not sure measurements... but they played lights out.

I was in highschool watching boyle. He was built like 300 pound pitbull. All neck. Scariest cowboy Ive ever seen in pads.

I had to put five linebackers on there.... we have too many good linebackers at wyoming. Use one as a backup lol. If i had to remove one, it would be....chuckwarra i think, but his pass rush was undeniably good.

Jeff Boyle was 6-1 295.

his lifting numbers heading into his senior year:

365 power clean
650 squat
465 bench.

Dude was a beast. I actually looked up boyle and found those stats. to bad he was injured towards the end of his career.
