High Fives. Big Smiles. Wrestling Wins. Lasting Impact
Last Saturday I was concerned the season grind was starting to affect the team. A weird effort at WVU and last week against Oregon State where guys were rolling on the mat after a whistle and were just flat! Coaches changed workouts for them, and did they ever respond last night. The team might have got so much into a pre-match routine during the week that when the travel delayed them getting home, it threw the team for a loop.
I spoke to Coach Branch and Coach Ford about it last night, and it was still fresh on their minds and weren’t sure how they would look. Being in the room, the team seemed loose, and the fans were filling in to make the UniWyo a loud place.
Wyoming won the toss and would start at HWT with Carroll coming out and just firing off shots and takedowns; the tone had been set. Sefton would lose via tech fall and the dual was quickly tied at 5-5; I believe Sefton just needs to score one takedown and it will change the match dynamic. He is firing in on shots and getting there but coming up short. I have a feeling Sunday he will score that upset!
Luke Willochell was not going to let any momentum come back to AFA and scored a pin. Saenz really responded at 141 and was on the offense, even on bottom, scoring a win. Big wins from Gabe and Jared were good to see and were on control all match. Sloan Swan scored an upset. Davis locked in five wings for the fans with another fall and Eddie just channeled his Carroll with TDs into a tech fall. McIntosh filled in again at 197. The size difference was evident, and would fall via MD.
Great team effort last night to keep the crowd engaged. Wyoming will need that effort again Sunday and that includes a BIG CROWD! We don’t want Coach Branch to take anymore solo horse rides this season.
MVPs: Luke and Riley getting two pinfalls and locking in five free wings from Wing Shack in Laramie.
Great crowd again last night. It was mentioned that Burns and Pine Bluffs wrestling team were there making it loud. After match autographs had those kids on cloud 9 meeting the Cowboys.
Wyoming is back in action at home Sunday 1pm MT against NDSU who is coming off a win against UVU last night in Orem.
