WTF? Serioulsy, some of you "thought" and "insisted" that we could play against SDSU? Come on! Until there is a new coach who CAN COACH DEFENSE (cause this defensive "guru" just doesnt have it), then the basketball team will be fighting at the bottom of the pool with AF and CSU.

Not much of an offense either. We never score more than 60 points on the road. That may have been ok before the shot clock, but it's inexcusable now.

Hard to get too excited about a 3-7 team that's headed for the play in game. They had me fooled early on, not any more.

Come on Bladerunner. With the outstanding defensive "GURU" that Burman hired, this team can win out. I mean, what should the fans expect from a head coach who does NOT have a winning record of .500 or better? But, look at the bright side, after this season, they have no where to go but up. I think Schoyer planned it that way. If he wins 5 conference games next year he will show progress and him and his buddy Burman will extend his contract and probably give him a raise. Nothing but the best for the fans of the Pokes.

You are a very interesting person. You remind me a lot of a very dedicated BYU fan or an absolute nut...I'm not sure which at this point. I think it is pretty clear what your agenda is. Schroyer is the worst coach in the history of UW and might be the worst coach in all of the NCAA right now. Hell, he might not even be able to out coach the Wyoming high school coaches. We get your point. The bad thing is, I think I'm going to have to put up with your ridiculous posts again next year. I really feel you will be a ghost when 2010-11 rolls around though. However, your welcome to ante up the buy out money to get Shcroyer out of here at season's end and smack down a a cool million to bring in a bigger name coach. No...I don't care about your donation to the Cowboy Joe Club. Be my guest and quit giving them money. I'm sure that would bring the Cowboy athletics deperatment crumbling to the ground. Hell, it might bring the entire university to a stand still. :D

TheRealUW,
If I had the money I would be glad to ante it up and get him out of here. And NEVER EVER compare me to a byu fan....never. No need to be an ass. As far as 2010-2011, I will be here. I dish it out, but come back to eat crow when I am wrong, not like "others" that I know. The problem is that there wont be any change between now and 2010-2011 unless they hire a defensive coach (or preferably a new head coach). But, hey, go kiss his ass and wait for "next year."

I thought that the Pokes, in spite of the loss, looked a little better than usual (but just a little). But the defensive critisism is correct. If only Shroyer would worry as much about this as he does about looking nattily attired for the game.

Well, I'm not calling for Schroyer's head. However, I'm really disappointed in the progress of this team. I thought they were progressing nicely and gave UNLV a pretty good game until the later stages. However, the home wins against AF and CSU, particulary the CSU game where we got up 17 in the first half despite some lousy defense and then barely hung on, were really not impressive. Since then, the team has regressed in all areas.

The home attendance has not been good. I understand the frustration. Pretty soon, it will turn into apathy. Then, financial conditions will force a change. I don't know what the answer is. But those who think Schroyer has us on the right track, please illuminate me. Other than Afam, I don't see one player on the court he's recruited that's any better than most of McClain's recruits. I can't speak to what went on off the court. I'm just judging the results on the court. I think I could root harder for this group if they played with more effort on defense and showed like they might just want to grab a rebound.

Bottom line, a good coach gets his team playing better as the season progresses. This team is getting worse. If someone can explain how this will change, I'm all ears.

This years recruiting class is very nice and much more on par with upper half of the MWC. I like to use ESPN.com to get most of my college basketball recruiting information. They tend to have a much more detailed analysis of basketball players than either scout or rivals does. I'll start with Amath M'Baye. In my opinion, this guy is our best recruit. ESPN gives him a score of 87. To put that in perspective, a score of 80-89 means "the players has the potential to start or significantly contribute as a freshman for most top national D1 programs". M'Baye will be a fair offensive threat, but is one hell of a defender and crashes the boards hard, especially the offensive glass. Next up, Thomas Manzano, the JC transfer. ESPN gives him a score of 90. A score of 90-99 means "player demonstrates rare abilities and has the potential to start as a freshman for national, top-25 program". This dude can really score. He has a very nice mid-game as his pull up jumper is one of the best I've ever seen. I can't wait to see this guy. I'm not sure what's going on with Quinton Thomas, as he has verballed to us but hasn't signed a letter of intent yet. He would round this recruiting class out very nicely. ESPN gives him a score of 89. He can go inside or outside and is another very good rebounder. He will create some major matchup problems. Michael Diezt is our last recruit. ESPN gives him a score of 82. Afam Muojeke was scored as an 80. We will see marginal improvement next year as a lot of the young guys and transfer players get their feet wet, but I'm convinced when 2010-11 rolls around that there will be a MAJOR improvement in Poke basketball. I hope that instilled some optimism in you.

Frankly, that's good to hear, or read. I really want this guy to do well. I was getting very down on UW athletics for the last few years. With the hiring of a new football coach, I was getting excited anyway. But I grew up with Garnett, Jackson, Engler, Bradley and etc.... Well, UW BB has not been what it should be for years.

I know it takes time to build a program. But I feel this current crop of players could be playing better. McClain wasn't perfect. But he did win a couple of MWC championships. I had very mixed feelings when he was fired. It's time we had a coach (football or BB) that doesn't leave because he was fired.

Let's hope that we get a little revenge against UNLV tomorrow.

I think it's ridiculous for people to expect Schroyer to turn this program around so fast with the mess McClain left it in. I've seen improvement from year to year and I expect a big improvement next year despite losing Ewing. If Tyson can get his shit together and the pokes win tomorrow night, there's a huge chance we win out and go to Vegas as the 5 seed.

A big thing I like in a coach is the effort and what a coach can get out of his players. I think our men's team has talent that stacks up favorably against the rest of the conference... but as we all know the defensive effort has just not been there. Legerski has a young team that probably has less talent than some of the conference but gives a ton of effort game in and game out (and what do you know, they can compete with and beat the best teams in the conference).

I guess that even after the women's team lost a great group of senior players, I still much prefer to watch them!

I enjoy watching the women as well...and I think they are coached very well. But, to say that they "give a ton of effort game in and game out" I would absolutely disagree. I have seen the women's team lay some real turds this season...and play flat uninspired basketball. Call it being young, inexperienced, a new system, whatever, the same can be translated to the men this year (and last year). UW fans should give Heath time to prove that he sucks...or that he can get it done. Legerski didn't win in his first 2 years, but because the program was "under the radar" at that time, nobody bitched about it.

Okay....
Don't know what I want to address on here.
Well if were discussing coaching and offensive principles.
The philosophy of concepts comes into play with Basketball IQ.....
When have we seen the entire year a post player kick the ball out to one of our guards for an open look?
How many times do I need to see Afam take a bad contested shot with 3 people on him?

Watch the teams we play making the extra pass for an open look. That's why we are losing games, Tyson Johnson I don't think has fought a man to a spot all season on defense. Our guards are always out of place because our bigs do nothing to help the cause.

Tyson and Afam are black holes.....
Thiam puts up the worse shot of the season outside of Afam's 35 foot airball vs....who can remember....
If your a big man and you catch the ball in the post, please kick it out if you don't feel comfortable with shooting the ball.

I'm looking at stats and Ogirri is leading the team in Eff Fg percentage which is usally a big man's category, then he broke the 3point record for the season already but he's shot the ball 20 times the past 3 games.

We don't run many things unless it's an inbounds play and in transition if Afam is leading the break, watch the game and he freezes Ogirri and passes to Ewing everytime or puts up a bad shot.

Ewing and Ogirri should get 10-15 uncontested shots from the outside.
Ogirri almost has 300 career 3 pointers..... around 40% from there and we have guys taking shots that are bad shots....

Ewing is non factor in one half or the other....

We seem not to know what our game plan is going to be. Pound it inside or just do high pick and roll.....
Watch the bigs tonight everyone see if we fight through screens, watch how many times we put up a crappy shot with the best shooter in the West....Ogirri or on the other side the best slasher in the west in Brandon Ewing....

No need to be at 3-7 and this is the make or break game.....
Selfishness is not an answer and shouldn't be tolerated...
