Wooster @ Wyoming

Wyo - 61
Wooster - 46

Sophomore forward Larry Nance Jr. posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to propel the University of Wyoming men's basketball team to a 61-46 exhibition win over the College of Wooster on Saturday night in the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowboys picked up their 23rd consecutive exhibition win with a well-crafted 12-6 run over the final nine minutes of the game.

I was not impressed with the team last night, they looked flat. I still am not sure how we will be this year and obviously Leonard will help with that.
Josh Adams is a stud, super athletic, can get his own shot, and can handle the ball. I expect him to contribute right away. The Wyoming kid showed some skill, but he is very timid and in basketball that'll kill you.
Haroldson (sp) showed some promise, he can rebound as well as anyone we have on the team.
Sobey (the aussie) should be a good player too, he split his hand in practice so that is why his mins were cut down, he may be our starting 2.
Sellers is not good, very slow, and doesnt really seem to know what he is doing. He will get garbage buckets because of his height.
Derek Cooke, is raw, fast, and athletic. Once he gets comfortable he should contribute nicely.
As for the returners nothing is really new, everyone seems improved and Nance's length will cuz a lot of problems for a lot of teams.

Although we have some mild to great expectations on this message board, no one on here (especially me the biggest homer of all) expects us to go out and blow teams out. No one is expecting us to put up 75 a game. But as long as that D is workin then we will be able to win our games. I don't care if we average 50 points a game as long as we average givin up 49

It's all about the W's.

But all around I think I am truely most excited about Adams. Do you think he could start the season opener Saturday night? And do you think McManamen will be able to become aggressive? Start putting up some buckets? Even if he takes the ball and drives in but still misses sometimes thats better than him just never trying to do anything.

And Cooke. Everyone keeps saying he is good but raw. Hmm... How does Shyatt get the rawness out of him and make him legit? And how long does it take for Shyatt to do that?

Hello, I am a new poster and a current sophomore at U Dub. I have been reading the board for awhile and just decided to start weighing in. My thoughts on the team are the talent level is much more improved from last year, along with a lot more depth. We should have about 10 guys that can see some good minutes this year and that will help us in the games that we are close in but seemed to lose our shooting legs in the second half with being tired last year. I think Cooke just needs more time, he looks very athletic and can rebound well and should turn into a very good player. From what I see out of Haldorson he looks like Nance at the same point last year and about the same body build, he will be able to contribute right away and be a good rebounder. Adams is very talented but needs some coaching as he lets his emotions get the best of him and doesn't always use his head. I see us being about the same as last year with an overall talent increase, but with a decrease in experience, and with the added depth we should be a better all around team. I expect to see about the same kind of year with us getting close to 20 wins or more again with our weak schedule and really like what Shyatt is doing with this program.

Welcome to the board Yank.
I still haven't seen Adams play yet, but from what it sounds like, he does need to calm down. But still am very excited about him. He will end up being a 3 or 4 year starter, and it will be awesome to see him excel

I watched Adams in the Colorado state championship game last year and saw some other clips. The one thing I noticed obviously is that he is athletic and can be very very good but he gets going to fast sometimes, almost like he is out of control.

If he can slow down just a little bit I think he will be very very good. I'm sure Shyatt will coach him up. I haven't seen him play this year yet but that is what I noticed in the state championship game last year. Maybe he has already improved in that area. I'm looking forward to watching him play this year.

I know a W is a W but you'd like to see us blow out the bad teams, if you play with your comp that's how you get upset.

I think Adams or the Aussie will start the opener to be honest. I think McManamen will become more aggressive with experience, like you said if he takes it hard and misses that is still a very good sign. I think him and Haroldson will be pretty good contributors come conf. play and that is exactly what you want.

As for Cooke, what will get his rawness out is gonna be practice and experience, with good coaches it will slowly transition from raw ability to production. Luckily until then his athleticism and speed will make up for what he lacks in experience and basketball skills. I think him along with Haroldson and Mcmanamen will all be solid come conf. I think the Aussie and Adams will be solid right away.

I don't normally like a soft schedule but early on that will be huge for us and get our guys with little experience some experience.

Experience is the key here and IMO that is why we have a soft schedule until conference time. I felt in watching the game last night, we weren't out to see how bad we could beat this team, but mostly to get the newcomers on the team game experience with several different line-ups. The coaches are still evaluating in actual game conditions and making notes on where each individual player need to improve. I have a lot of faith in this coaching staff's ability to get this team to play as a team, to the best of their ability, and as quickly as possible. I doubt there is another coaching staff in the MWC that could do better with this task.

Exactly. It isn't a time to go win 100-40. It is to see your new guys play. Didn't either syracuse or kentucky a few years back when they were ranked number 1 lose to a d2 team in an exhibition? Then as soon as the real season began they dominated.

Interesting roster for sure, I still love Luke and think we'll be ok when Leonard comes back, really like that Derrious looks more comfortable being the QB of this team. Really like that Josh Adams kid and will learn to love all these new faces, here's hoping it's a good year and we win at least 17-18 games this year...GO POKES
