CSewe is poised to win their second consecutive MWC regular season championship this weekend.

And to think they hired a former UW head coach (1986 - 1998) as director of basketball ops to assist.

What is wrong with this picture? FFS.

A. It looks like we've hit some sort of recruiting plateau. (We've not lately had bigs who can complement some of our really excellent guard play/outside shooters.)

B. This year's team is also underperforming somewhat...but that's to a degree been an issue for a while.

But coach Joe is so nice... And from Wyoming! And he won us that WNIT like 8 years ago. Shouldn't he be given a lifetime contract?

It is an area that they should be looking at. However, I think Legerski is a guy that (if I were in the UW AD) I would promote to an associate AD position. That way we can get someone new in the women's basketball team, but we can keep Joe around as he truly does a lot for the university outside of women's bball. And, to be honest, I think he could be a good administrator.

i always thought we shoulda kept Joe Glenn as an ambassador, that man could sell ice to eskimos in Alaska, lol

At the current rate Legerski will finish with a better conference record than our Men's team for the 10 or 11th straight year (can't remember exactly and don't care to look) and this is what we should worry about? I know technically the Men have a better record right now, but.....

I am not happy that this program has reached a plateau, but on the list of pressing issues for our woeful athletic department this is way down the list. Our revenue programs are a goddamned joke for starters. Unless we fix those, nothing else really matters.

Men's basketball is a joke because? I realize the tendency on these boards is to bitch and moan. But, given where the program was 4 years ago to today, it is night an day.

Is it a joke because we've had an unfortunate event negatively affect the past three seasons? Or is it a joke because the Pokes haven't been able to finish a season with the full squad intact?

I'm as frustrated as anyone, but can see very big reasons why the Pokes are not in first place like they were 6 games ago. Am I the only one?

One NCAA in 25 years. This year is one of our better teams in that timeframe and is likely headed to the CBI.

Who gives a shit where we were 6 games ago. Look where we are now.

Joe's a terrific coach.. -good- women's coaches are hard to come by, and he's enjoying success that not many coaches do. Living here in Missoula where there's a women's coach who's at the absolute top (over 700 wins), I've watched Joe destroy his team multiple times. Women's basketball ain't easy, and if you think men's hoops is hard to recruit, try women's hoops.

Damn Beave you are also a change that is night and day... For the worse. Pretty sad when you're even worse than normal complainers on here.
Going after the women's coach? Really? The dude sports over 200 wins has an NCAA and several multiple round NIT trips, including winning one of the tourneys! He's one of our best coaches at UW in any sport. You know that if the men were busting out records like Legerski you wouldn't be bitching, so just stop spouting.
The difference Beave, is that the MWC is a multi bid league in the men's side, but they are almost always a one bid league in women's bball.
He's completely changed the face of our women's program. Not only records, but how about attendance? He sports one of the best attendances in women's basketball. Obviously he's doing something right. This year was a little down. They had their Boise St moment when Cotton went out with a season ending injury, they've made changes and have completely changed this second half of the conference slate around. But because they're not 26-0 Beave is upset... Just stop.

It's easy to understand where Beaver is coming from though. I support Legerski and noted as much upthread, but the fact of the matter is that there is almost nothing coming out of UW athletics right now to be excited about unless you are one of the very tiny percentage of Americans that are interested in Wrestling.

It's why the collapse of this year's basketball team has been so difficult for many of us (I think Beaver and I are in a similar boat in that regard). It was our one chance with a senior laden team to finally see something positive and it went away. There is no real hope to win conference titles in either revenue sport in the foreseeable future. Bohl has a giant crater to pull the program out of and Shyatt will have a very young, lightly recruited team next year. Legerski will likely remain competitive because Dent is awesome and that's just what Legerski does, but losing Woodward and Mileto and replacing them with a couple of other regional HS players with height, shooting, and limited athleticism is really just maintaining the status quo there.

For the other sports, TJ will keep S&D competitive but until we give him a half decent facility this is as good as it gets. Volleyball and Women's Soccer have the unfortunate condition of being in sports where the MWC has one dominant program that is a step above and difficult to catch (CSU VB and SDSU Women's Soccer). I think the T&F and XC programs are in good hands, but we lack the resources to build the depth you need to compete for team honors in those sports and Golf is not built for Laramie.

I just hate seeing other programs pass us up.

I hate hearing excuses as to why we are struggling.

I just want us to win. Not talk about how we were close to winning. I want to win.

Thanks for everything Kayla and Kaitlin and any other seniors I missed out on, never been big on WBB, sorry
