Will the front seven be much improved....?

We've got some bodies on the defensive line. Sidney, Connor, Yohanna, and Ja'Chai should make a pretty salty defensive tackle rotation. I'm sure there will be some walk-ons step forward as well, but the defensive tackle spot looks solid. We replace a 5'7" 265 pound guy with a 6'6" 300 pound guy, so we'll be harder to run against on the interior.

Granderson/Prosser is the best pass rushing end set in the MWC. Josiah Hall and Shiloh Windsor will get much better with an off-season in the weight room. The defensive end rotation looks like it has a chance to be pretty damn solid.

The good news: we have a lot of defensive talent coming in along the line. I'm sure we'll try to redshirt those guys, but if an emergency happens and someone gets hurt, we've got some talented bodies that can play right away in our recruiting class.

The question to me is at linebacker. Thank god we just hired an NFL linebacker coach because we look a little thin.

Logan Wilson is a great building block. Caash looked very good at the end of the season. We've got Christian Irving, Adrian King, and Jahmari Moore coming in. I wouldn't be surprised if they move more guys over from different postions in the off-season. True freshmen will have a chance to play at linebacker.

Our defensive line is going to be solid next year. If the linebackers improve, our front seven shouldn't be as big of a weakness as it has the last few seasons.

The biggest factor for the line is how Granderson comes back. He's a guy who will demand double teams if he's at 100%. Knee injuries aren't a joke though so he may never be the same player again like Afam Muojeke. Planning for the worst, the defensive line should still be a solid unit.

The interior line will be solid since Bohl has finally recruited a bunch of kids with FBS size. We finally started to see some of that depth this year with many young players who will continue to improve. Prosser should only get better assuming he stays at end. Hopefully he bulks up some, but he has the quickness to make up for it as is. Lolohea wasn't spectacular, but he was a solid guy. The scheme should be better with a better defensive coordinator which should help as well.

With Conner Cain, Yohanna, Sidney, Granderson, Prosser, Josiah and 3 to 4 others, plus some young - hungry LB'ers and a secondary that's battle tested this is going to be a #saltydefense. Speed, increased size, increase lean muscle mass, game experience-----this group could be very - very good. The Strength Coach was last years X factor and the difference in eye test with the players was a big, big difference. Year 2 of Coach Dennison and now a big taste of success. As the Offense was the bell cow last year I believe the Defense will be much better.

The entire defensive front accounted for something like 100 tackles combined. If scheming and size can add just 5 more tackles a game we would be worlds ahead of where we are now. Seems small but your defensive line getting 60 more tackles a season is a huge improvement. That will probably result in 1-2 more 3 and outs, and gives the offense 1-2 more times to score.
