Will our safety's be improved from last year

Was looking at the depth chart on gowyogo, the depth chart wont offically release until monday from what ive gathered. But looking at Ian's projected starters at safety; Luke Ruff and kenny browder... im wondering if we will be improved or if it will be a bad year.

Remembering how i liked to watch Pro and gary, I can remember many times those two giving up big plays. During the texas game last year, Gary got beat twice on a double move down the seam giving up a touchdown both times. While both Pro and gary led the team in tackles, I myself am wondering if we might actually see an improvement in the pass defense this year.

Personally, I would rather have ball-hawking safety's that dont give up big plays; vrs having hardhitting run supporters. Not sure how this will turn out? But we definetly have to mitigate giving up the deep ball.

Opinions?

A lot will depend on the ability of our D-line and linebackers to stop the run game. At least part of the reason we got beat on so many deep balls last year was because our safety's were forced to be major contributors to the run defense, making play-action especially effective against us.

As good as our linebackers are, they were handcuffed last year because they were playing out of position. Brian Hendricks is too small to play MLB in a 4-3 defense these days. His skill set and size dictate him to the weakside LB position, which is where he has been moved this season. Look for his production to rise TREMENDOUSLY because he is now in the right position. Ghaali Muhammad is one hell of an athlete, but he was eaten alive by 300+ lb O-lineman on weakside run plays. He belonged at SS.

I think you will see better D-line and linebacker play this year when it comes to the run game. This should improve our pass defense in it of itself. Do I think Browder and Ruff are an upgrade over Gary and Prosinski? No, I don't. However, they may have a better year statistically as a result of improved play in the trenches.

Look at the best defenses, they always have a few good DT's to stop the run, they always have someone that can rush the passer, you put the offense in 3rd long and your DB's look real good. Our DL is in the top 2 in league, LB in top 5, secondary in the bottom 3 so lets hope the front 7 can do some damage

unfortunately, sometimes this stat being increased comes from the corners getting beat over the top too often
