Wicks

I’m happy to see Wicks actively engaging the students to try and drum up some interest in the upcoming season.

In interviews, Wicks makes it seem like he plans to play a bruising style of basketball focused on running the offense through our front court players. “90’s basketball” he called it. Personally, I love that style of play, but it isn’t the most fast paced or exciting.

Ultimately, I will wait to see how they play in a game before I make any judgments. Sawvel has proven that preseason hype videos are essentially worthless.

I can tell you all that Sunny is exactly who he presents himself to be. He's intense, passionate, and a bit of a goofball. He can talk your ear off about basketball, too. That "Dr. Doom shot" that he posted yesterday took him roughly 25 takes. He was smiling the entire time and giving his team a hard time for not rebounding for him. They like him.

Don’t know if you guys seen this yet.

Lots of energy and catch phrases for sure.

That stuff is only useful if you get full buy-in from every player on the team. If Wicks can get them to bring that level of energy and intensity onto the floor, this will be a fun team to watch regardless of win total. If not, then it will probably be another long season.

In my opinion energy was a lot of what was missing last season. No matter how well the game was going the bench was silent. That was a big change from the prior years when Sunny was on the staff.

I am very curious to see if Wicks is able to pull off the 90’s bad boys vibe in today’s game.

The game is refereed very differently these days. A lot of things that would have been a simple personal foul in the 90’s would be called flagrant and/or get you ejected now.

Maybe we can just start by being relentless in our rebounding. Rebounding is nothing but effort.
