Trump negotiates what seems like a pretty good trade deal with the EU and the TDS is so strong the libs cant find some part to give him credit. I don’t get the hatred. I really don’t.
Lots of people complain about the growing national debt, but I think very few of them are really prepared for the hardships they will face if we get serious about decreasing it.He's done well on stopping the border crossings. Are some methods or situations calloused? Maybe but maybe that's what it required to accomplish the job.
My huge issue with both parties is debt. They only care about it when the other side is in office. We are on track in the next year or two for interest on the debt to be our 2nd largest annual expenditure behind Medicaid/Medicare (or maybe it is SS). Think about that. Mind blowing and unsustainable. Trumps argument that he's adding to the debt slower is bs. He's still adding to the debt.
We need Republicans to get over the idea that we can't tax more and the Democrats to get over the idea that somehow there are only certain financial classes that need to pay more. I think we need 2 things: 1) a balanced budget amendment with stipulations that surplus goes to debt. No more deficits or at least very restrictive deficits within a certain amount of gdp. VERY restrictive on deficits. 2) 2% National sales tax designated strictly to paying off debt. As soon as debt is 0, tax expires. As soon as debt increases, it kicks back in. I get it that certain classes will feel it more, but as soon as we're out of debt, the obligation will be removed. Everyone, including the federal government, needs to tighten the belt to address this. Trump isn't doing that. Neither is the other side.

Of course there is fiscal waste in the government, but even if all of that waste was rooted out - which I think is impossible - it still would not come anywhere close to balancing our federal budget. If we want a truly balanced budget, we are going to have significantly cut many federal services. Things would get very rough for a while. For most people alive today, it would probably result in the lowest standard of living they have ever faced while living in this country.
Are most people prepared to bear that hardship in order to get the national debt under control? I highly doubt it.
Everything you are saying is correct, but the average American would rather pass those hardships down the line to future generations rather than bear them themselves. It's going to be MUCH worse if we stay 125% of gdp.
We spend more on interest than almost every other government program. Countries are dumping bonds driving up interest to service the debt. We're in a bad spot.
We at minimum need a solid plan of cuts, more taxes, and increase in gdp to at least get to 80-85% gdp in say 15 years.

Slowly, but surely, Americans have let our culture of individualism erode our sense of community to the point many parents are making decisions that benefit themselves but come at a future cost to their children and grandchildren. By and large, we have lost the mental fortitude to withstand short term pain for a long term gain.
Rugged individualism may very well be what built this country, but taken to the extremes, it likely will also be its undoing.
wait until they find out what happens when we fall off the fiscal cliff. non asset holders will be crushed again.Lots of people complain about the growing national debt, but I think very few of them are really prepared for the hardships they will face if we get serious about decreasing it.
