Which team won the first national championship, Nebraska or

Cowboy Junky

Well-known member
Wyoming?

The answer: Wyoming.

Wyoming was the first school in the mountain time zone at either of the men's major college sports(football or basketball) to win a national title when the basketball team did it in 1943. Previous to the NCAA keeping track of national basketball titles, Wyoming won a Helms foundation national title in 1934 at men's college basketball. Wyoming did it before Utah. We did it before Bear Haskins all black starting five. We did it before Nebraska football, Colorado football, and UNLV basketball.

What year was Nebraska's first title?

Wyoming has played in two bowl games that make up the current BCS bowls. We've played in the Sugar and we played the defending national champion Sooners in the Fiesta.

There aren't a lot of teams that have two combined appearances in BCS bowls: even pre-dating the legal monopolization and corruption of college football.

So please continue to yammer on while we remember our NCAA tournament MVP trophy and the shot Kenny Sailors invented that revolutionized college basketball.

At the time Nebraska was a corn silo with dust on the shelves.

You might have done it: we were the first ones out west to do it, and Nebraska sits right on the border with out west, all-be-it on the ugly side.

Now please remind us of how classy you are while Jim Delaney robs college athletics of everything pure and buys his kids trips to exotic places with the proceeds. Just make sure not to forget to remind everyone how classy you are. Thank us for Robert S. Devaney if you can squeeze it in between scheduled public announcements on you and your friends class.

Today you'll face us on the field you've been ducking for 100 + years and will never come back to.

Hopefully the Cowboys can carry themselves with more class than the Cornhuskers.

who knows...if it had been invented a few years later the league might have decided to make a rule against it instead of allowing it, and basketball would look totally different today

A rule against the jump shot... Congrats, that's the dumbest post i've read this week.

yeah, it used to be against the rules to travel in the NBA as well. How dumb!

*epic facepalm*

considering that NO ONE had ever tried it until sailors did, i imagine that the refs were scratching their head a bit wondering if that was traveling or not...or maybe you were there and obviously know better than i
