What is going on?

We get outrebounded by 13 rebounds (31 to 18) by Boise St. who runs a 4 guard offense and Haldorson doesn't play. Cooke had 6 total rebounds and Sellers who played 5 minutes had no rebounds and no points and one foul. I am not ragging on the players at all, just wondering where Haldorson was? Is he still injured or is it "coaches decision"? Either way I am questioning why when we are getting out rebounded so badly why no attempt to get someone in to rebound? Boise St. shot in excess of 60% in the 2nd half, so it looked like Wyoming's players got tired and our defense just broke down badly. Coaching decisions or the lack of them has me saying, "What's going on?".

I was never impressed by our rebounding prior to Nance's injury. I would have even described it, along with the lack of depth along the front line, as our greatest weakness this year. My expectations for this season had been exceeded prior to Nance's injury because of the known depth and size issues along the front line.

I have noticed that we have a minimal commitment to offensive rebounding. Also, our rebounders are generally skinny compared to years past.

That said, we should be able to hold our own against a 4-guard team like B.S...u.

I feel like our lack of depth in the post directly contributes to our rebounding problems. We can't afford to have any of our starters get into foul trouble because the bench is not ready to contribute. God help us if Cooke gets into foul trouble. Sellers can't rebound to save his life. I counted at least 5 times that he had position and couldn't come down with the board.

As far as Haldorson, your guess is as good as mine. I don't know why he's not stepping up, but he needs to badly. If we had another 6'9" contributor it would help immensely.

Fatigue killed the Pokes second half. But Halderson has to be put in. Let him get banged around and smoked in a real-life situation. That is the only way he will learn what improvements he has to attain to come up to speed (if he really wants to). Sobey worked his ass off in the off season. He is much better now. Why not the Haldersons doing the same.

I agree. Put Haldorson in and let him get banged around and see how he responds...it is about time as he is a late sophomore almost junior. I really do think that it is past time to see if Haldorson is able to play at this level. Sobey has been a pleasant surprise this year and it is great see the effort he put in paying dividends.

I wouldn't count on Sellers being on the squad for next year and with Keonta Vernon transferring it opens up one scholarship at least for next year. I hope that they are able to recruit a JC big to come in and be an immediate contributor at least on the defensive end, because as it stands now next season will be a long one with a questionable Nance and a Cooke who has virtually no offensive game and then you add a project true freshman and a redshirt freshman plus only Haldorson as well. Kind of scary if you ask me.

One of the big unknowns is McManaman and how does he respond to a redshirt year. I understand that he is a good shooter, but I heard that about Haldorson as well, so I will wait and see if that is truthful.

Wyoming put way too much emphasis on one player in my opinion. Without him in it exposed a huge weakness....aka THE BENCH. Coach Shyatt said that they are working on getting the situation right, and I hope and pray that this means that he working on addressing the lack of depth with some outstanding recruiting, because right now we are drastically in need of some REAL talent infusion and enough of the "projects" have been recruited and are sitting on the bench.

I don't think there's a coach on planet earth who would choose a project over real talent. They take on projects when they have to. Wasn't Haldorson the #1 recruit out of Colorado or something close? I realize he hasn't panned out like we would have expected him too but he was a good get. Maybe Duval can help him in the weight room once the season is over.

Haldorson was far from being the top player in Colorado when he graduated, but he was still considered to be a "good get" that was also a project with a good upside. Haldorson was a project but not a big one. Sellers was considered to be a big project. Herndon was also considered to be a talented kid but a project because he is so thin. Barnes is considered to be a project because he hasn't played much organized ball as was Cooke who had only played one year of JC ball. Only Nance was not considered to be a big project. It appears that Coach Shyatt has cornered the "project" market and any big man that he has gotten has been FAR from a polished player and far from being able to help in the near future except for Nance. I am aware that typically big men take longer to develop but all of the players that Coach Shyatt has signed have been at the least two years out from helping except Nance. With Cooke he had no choice but to use him, despite being so limited on the offensive end. We need impact players, not projects that are two or more years out!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't think anything you're saying isn't anything Shyatt already knows, however. Problem is that an impact big man who is already developed is what every single coach in America is looking for, and there really aren't that many of them to go around.

Wyoming recruiting in every sport has always been about finding that "diamond in the rough".

it's almost a mirror image of last year when Leonard totally ran outta gas, I wonder if Shyatt regrets recruting that whom he has left on his bench??? Sellers tries hard but just doesn't have it, Halderson is a ghost, I think Jack needs more mins than he gets to help out more, what the hell play Tyser more being a Wyoming kid and a fellow Buffalo Bison, why not give him a go, really what do you have to lose at this point of the season being so depleted.
Hard for me to believe how they put so much stock in one player, the start of the Boise game man oh man, but they went away from what was working, my idea the last two, go to the hole more get these players in foul trouble and equalize the game. So frustrating

I'm not so sure the Pokes went away from what was working for them, so much as Boise picking up on it and guarding it a lot better.

you are probably right, the success of this team needs to change, time to drive to the hole more and get their players in foul trouble!!!! Halderson, what a waste, if it's true sure hope he transfers like the rumors say

For what it's worth, I've heard Haldorson has been hurt and that is why he hasn't been playing. He does need to get some meat on his bones however.

That injury was much earlier in the season and Shyatt himself said that he has been available for games for awhile but has not put him in, so at this stage Haldorson must not be going in based upon a "coaching decision". From what I have gathered, Haldorson just isn't physically strong enough to play at this level and he has declined to do a redshirt year, so it sounds like they are at an impass. My opinion either Haldorson puts in the work in the weight room and gets bigger and stronger in a hurry or goes to a school where he can play as he is now. The saddest part is that his scholarship has been literally a waste as he has been on the bench for two years and it doesn't sound like he is going to be a contributor anytime soon.

It reminds me a lot of the Michael Dietz situation. He was a bean pole coming out of NC, and eventually transferred. Now he is up here in Rapid City at SDSM&T, a Division II school. Hasn't gotten much bigger, either.

Almost sounds like Haldorson said "Screw it. All I want is a D-1 letter jacket and a free education. This hard work stuff is bullshit".

I've heard rumors that he is out of here after this season...for what it's worth
