Western State

I just don't see a lot of talent. Lieberman and Gorski are not D1 talent. Naughton looks OK, not great, Adam's is very explosive but needs some work.
Lieberman is a great PG with a decent shot, he gets the ball to our main scoring weapons. Gorski is D1 talent, although I'd prefer to see Adams or James starting. A double-double in 15 minutes is more than just OK, regardless of the competition.

We'll beat some teams picked above us this year and continue to build for the future. You're being way to pessimistic

I hope you are right. The first 10 minutes were terrible

Definitely need to clean things up.....but scoring almost double the opposition is good. James had an off first half. I'd like to see him catch fire in the 2nd. And, I'd like to see Moemeka in there to see what he can do.

Is Moemeka dressed? It looks like it's just the transfers in street clothes at the end of the bench but I'm not sure...

I might have spoken too soon. I think our subs are better than our starting lineup. The starting lineup tonight was not very good together.
The bench combined for 7 points that half. Our 2 best players so far were starters, considered by you to be "non D-1" and "just OK". Pretty obvious you're just trolling now...

The first 10 minutes were awful. No one in position movement, defense was non existent. They have been playing better since then so I hope it was just first game jitters.

We have a lot of shooters this year. Our starting five can all get buckets.

I thought James played like shit the majority of the game but got a little momentum going late, when he found some points, had a couple of blocked shots, and stopped forcing the game. He needs to turn his shoulders to pass the ball. He trys to make spectacular passes without squaring up and throws it out of bounds.

Big night for Naughton and Gorski. Those guys got a good start out of the gates this year.

So we win by 39 points (same team we only beat by 15 points two years ago with Nance Jr., Adams, Cooke, etc...This was a team effort and I really like Coach Edwards style. A lot of guys in the rotation and I think we will definitely win more games this year than last. As much as I love Josh Adams (God Bless and keep working on your recovery my friend), he was like Kobe in LA, to much attention on just him and you can't win in D1 with 1 guy (to much of a load for even Josh A.) You have to have a team and a bench (Warriors, Cavaliers and look at the Lakers this year?). I think the young guys have matured and Josh would've loved to have this type of maturity last year. Very impressed with Gorski shooting and Lieberman running the offense. Naughton had a double double in the first half.

Nothing to bitch about, Negative Nancy's and Debby Downers should be a little more patient.

It is Western State - but a nice win.....congrats Pokes and Coach E.

I too thought the performance was good (better than expected honestly). I was impressed with Gorski and tell me we didn't get an absolutele steal with Jordan Naughton! That dude is going to be SO good.

This team has the appearances to be really good or really frustrating. Could be a really fun year!

Nice win. I thought the Pokes played their best on the defensive side of things. Need to work on making better passes and getting comfortable playing with each other. There is a possible 10 man rotation. Not a lot of drop off 1 through 9 or 10 IMO. Need Moemeka to get more comfortable. James had an off night, but was on the verge of a few spectacular dunks. Adams dunk was like watching the Adams of last year. He will become more comfortable at this level too. And good for Marshall. He looked good in the minutes he played.

Bigger test coming up.

Go Pokes!!

I'm not sure how much we can really glean against a team like Western State. Offensively, good ball movement (passing and penetration) for the most part, with some ill-advised decisions here and there (which is to be expected early on). One 4+ minute lull on the offensive end without a bucket in the 2nd half. Defensively, good intensity and good help-defense in half-court with only a few breakdowns inside. The Pokes did what they needed to do against an overmatched WS squad.

We'll have a better indication where the team is at early on with games against Montana, Pacific and Cal on the road and SD State at home. Continued improvement each game heading into conference play and I'll be a happy guy. Need to get Justin going. And here's hoping JB can be a bigger contributor inside this year.

Lieberman is just not good. I know I know. I'm trying to be nice. Gorski will get eaten by a team with better athletes

Good game by the Pokes! I'm encouraged that we can beat our pre season rankings if we play the right players. We have a lot of talent and should truly be a team to be reckoned with in the years to come.

McM - Same old Jason - very good and reliable player

J.James - he moves so well and is a good defender. I still think he should be getting the most minutes. He was off tonight, but he will be maybe the most important player

Naughton - As said by others is a beast down low with a good offensive post game. He looks much better.

L. Adams - That dunk was incredible. I hope he get more minutes than what he got tonight.

Herndon - Looked pretty good, but is still light. He needs to go visit Dennison for a summer.

Gorski - Can shoot the shit out of the ball when he is open. I have serious concerns about him getting open vs a team that isn't so short and white. He moves at a glacial pace around the court.

Lieberman - I'd take 10 of his minutes and give them to M. Marshall and L. Adams. He , like Gorski, can make open threes, but he can't finish around the rim and he wasn't even staying in front of those DII white boys from western on D. Just too short and slow.

Dalton - Looked really good to me. Was our most active rebounder and defender. I think I like him better than Herndon, but it's only one game. Need to see more.

Moemeka - Obviously athletically gifted. Seemed jittery to me. He needs minutes, but I'm not sure how to get them to him. Who do you take minutes from? If Herndon does not hit the boards then maybe him.

M. Marshall - Thought he was injured, but we saw him. He looks good to me, like any other time we've seen him. I'm still not sure why he's in the dog house. I hope he works into the rotation.

Barnes - can bang down low and is a pretty good defender and rebounder, but his offensive game leaves a lot to be desired. He'll get some minutes here and there. looked better, but still doesn't have the best hands.

Kelley, that other walk on - Use as traditional walk ons. Nice players for our program
