A great article from Mike Vorel,

Good read, You know things are changing when players admit they have been wasting their time.

Our guys may not have the increased skill this year, but they sure as hell will be stronger and faster than the last half dozen years. This was a HUGE part of player development that was missing in Wyoming.

This is amazing me.

The part about DJ May and Uso talking about how they feel like they wasted 2 years...wow.

I am still not very optimistic about the team this season, due to the hole at QB.

The reason I think this team might be able to win some games is because of Duval.

Man oh man if we had Brett Smith here, who always fit the Cowboy Tough mold, we would win 9 games including one in Eugene. (Remember, the Ducks can't handle real power)

If this team grinds out games and gets to a bowl game, thank Duval.

Ha...I'm all for optimism Beav, but no way we win that game with or without Smith, he wouldn't even be the best QB on the field. I love the Pokes, but I'm also realistic.

Lol well maybe part of me is pro-wyoming, and another part of me is anti-duck as I am no longer just a fan of Oregon State but officially a Beaver, AKA an actual student.

I just notice how anytime Oregon plays any power team they struggle Kinda like how Saban struggles against spread teams.

Man, Oregon and Alabama really would be a great game.

beav, if you are in Pullman... and ever head over to the Seattle-Tacoma area, and need to fuel up, rest, eat, wash clothes... whatever; let me know and stop by the casa!

I will grill something up, just watch out cause my food has made me a horrible fat-ass.

different subject... I still really want to go to Eugene and watch the game... however I work with many university of Washington fans, and they all say that getting tickets to the ducks stadium is way over priced for the bullshit the sit you in. I still want to go, being that I haven't been to a poke game since the fall of 2005.

ok, back to junky's subject... and one that I believe is more important than most we've seen in this football forum; Duval...

look out mountain west, this guys sounds like a true leader of men. Im not bullshitting, I've been around plenty of good and bad leaders, plenty of people that thought they knew how to change physiology... and people that actually could change physiology.

duval is a going to turn this team into believers with confidence and strength to win.

I seldom ever make predictions ( except for maybe over a period of years or something like that), but I am going way out on the end of a limb this time and predicting UW will be in the top half of the MWC and in a bowl game this year! I'm not going to be disappointed or impatient if it doesn't happen, but I see too many good things going on and hear from so many of the players about the good changes happening that I am jumping on this bandwagon.
I've been around this football team for a long, long time, so I know about all the disappointments and let downs over the years. I have also been wrong on my assessments many times too, so it's not a huge blow to my ego if I'm wrong. I'll be there if I'm able to walk. Go Pokes!

Weren't DJ May and Uso Olive both considering a transfer a year ago? There was talk on these boards about that a ways back. Seemed they weren't happy under the previous staff. Anyway I find it a little disturbing that they felt their time here was wasted. Wondering where that attitude would rank on that 1 to 4 scale regarding a players mental attitude in the Duval article.

DJ was but Olive wasn't.

They are both from Washington, and DJ was talking about transferring to EWU, and Olive said go Wazzu or something like that and Wyonation freaked out because they thought he was going to Washington State, when really he was just cheering for his old buddies who go to Wazzu.

Olive is a Poke for life. His mothers tombstone has a big Steamboat on it. He is a Wyoming Cowboy through and through.

I will take you up on that offer Carbon! I know that Wazzu is heading to Corvallis this fall, so it probably won't happen this year but my GF has family in the tri-cities area which isn't too terribly far away. Maybe Shyatt can schedule something with Gonzaga or Wazzu last minute!

He sits at the desk in his office and speaks in a calm, gravelly tenor, pausing occasionally to spit nonchalantly into the garbage can next to his chair

"pausing occasionally to spit nonchalantly into the garbage can next to his chair"

Hell yea, he's going to teach those kids the right things in life.

Actually, Olive was going to transfer while DC was still here. It was after his first year in Laramie(summer 2012). His twitter was full of negative crap about Wyoming and how homesick he was, as he was getting ready to go home for the summer. He was as good as gone at that point. I posted it on this board and talked to the people around the program that I know. I'm sure the people that read that thread talked to the people that they know. Word got back to Kaligis. It took some heavy persuasion from Kaligis to get him to come back. He admitted it in the press later, that he was planning on leaving. He did that while he had Steamboat on his mothers tombstone.

Last years incident was the one you were referring to. Before that, he was planning on leaving, and Kaligis convinced him to stay.

Ah, I did not know that about his freshman year.
Can't say I blame him though.
Red-shirting in Laramie freakin Wyoming after the rough few years you just had...Why wouldn't you want to come home?
Him staying could be the best thing that ever happened to him.
