This article is insane.. these Zoob writers are something else. They've not yet realized that the world doesn't live and breath BYU football.

With a Wednesday deadline looming, indications abound that Brigham Young University is still doggedly pursuing a plan to go independent in football and has been in simultaneous membership negotiations with both the Western Athletic Conference and the West Coast Conference for the rest of its non-football sports teams.

What is at stake as the two conferences wrangle for the Cougars became clearer Sunday. More e-mails and internal documents surfaced showing WAC commissioner Karl Benson had preliminary discussions with ESPN in June in which the television sports giant indicated a WAC-BYU agreement might result in a 300 percent increase in television revenue over the roughly $500,000 per school currently being received by WAC institutions such as Utah State.

Good. That's one of the articles I read earlier on ponyfans.
I don't want any Texas teams being involved with BYU or the WAC.
SMU fans haven't forgotten how BYU treated them in the past.

Unfortunately, the fans don't dictate conference alignment, it's driven by the almighty dollar.. if SMU thinks they can get a better deal in the WAC, they'll be all over it. Terribly unfortunate.. but it's always fun to have more BYU haters..

Speaking of which.. I saw a man with a BYU baseball cap downtown this weekend.. took a lot of willpower not to go boot him in his twig and giggleberries. Then just yell, "YOU KNOW WHY!!"

Craig Thompson should do his thing again and invite Houston, SMU, and UTEP now! Crush their plans once again! This is entertaining to watch BYU crumble.

In the Utah press they say 300 percent more, but in the Honolulu paper U H athletic director said it was up to 300 percent, Well the up to 300 percent must have been as real as the 5 mill clause to stay :ugeek:

Read the article (and look at the timeline below it) closely. The 300% figure came down on June 18th. At that point, they were trying to get BYU as full members. It wasn't until July that BYU said that they were interested but definitively said "no football."

You have to give Benson credit for thinking big, but as we see now it was all built on a house of cards. I suspect that the 300% figure included swiping MWC teams, BYU playing football, and obviously not losing who they lost. No way that the WAC-9 plus a few games against BYU a year results in a 1.5M contract.
