Dave's quote after the game:
“I was pleased coming into halftime keeping the score tight. We had a chance to score right before half and threw the pick. I was happy with our defense, and we moved the ball somewhat offensively. I was hoping to come out in the second half and do the same thing, but unfortunately they got rolling and our lack of depth and their depth wore us down.
“The key with both of the offenses is up tempo and getting positive yardage on the first downs is critical. We just didn’t get that done tonight.
“They are very talented at the skill positions and that quarterback is an All-American and a Heisman candidate. He plays that way each and every week.
“Their defense did a really good job tonight. We had some opportunities that we didn’t execute when we had a chance, and they made some plays that made the difference in us keeping the football.”
-Pleased with keeping the game tight, as opposed to maintaining our poise and going in with the lead and some emotional momentum, which we could have done with just a smidge of creativity (as opposed to the inside handoff on the zone read every damned play).
-"Hoping" to come out of the second half and DO THE SAME THING (i.e. no adjustment).
-Our lack of depth was a problem (well coach, how do you fix that depth problem...it has been a constant refrain for the past five years?).
Their defense did a good job...for, like the first time all year...why do teams always have their best games ever against us, coach...do we motivate them to excel that much that every team breaks records when they play us? Or could it be that we just stink?
This is wearing real thin...I remember sitting with DC at a dinner this Spring and he said, and I quote, "this is the best team that we have had since I got here..." If that is the case, get Houston on the horn, cause we have a biiiiggg problem.
