UW @ UNC

I had a pretty good time. I didn't realize it was a highschool gym but other than that it was a pretty nice arena. Nicer seats than the double A.
UNC is a decent team. They do play a bit dirty for my tastes. They can shoot the three as a team for damn sure.
Some of their fans were really nice. Others were assholes. Normal i guess.
The W-Y-O chant that made them turn up the speakers to 11 made my night.
I still think we have a LONG way to go to be the team they can be but I think this Wyoming team has the potential to be a top 25 team

I agree, but whenever I say anything like that everyone rips my ass and says maybe if you could bring down your oregon state money we could do that.

Our OOC rpi is weak, but having #23 CU coming into our house will be HUGE for it come tourney time. I think if we win this game against CU on december 1st (which I got work off for) we will be in for a very specials year.

Personally I think you guys rag on Luke far more than you should. He has more on nights than off and there have been plenty of times when his shots have sparked a Wyoming win. The amount of Wyoming fans talking shit on Wyoming players is ridiculous.

Last year Martinez shot 33% from 3 and 37% overall. Last year, he was the best we had. I see a better inside game with Cooke and Nance this year. You are absolutely crazy to say he has more "on" nights than "off" nights. His on nights are usually at home against really bad OOC opponents. But, what the hell. I trust Shyatt to do the right thing. If he's happy with Luke, that's fine. But his shooting percentage speaks for itself.

Never take any road win in college basketball lightly. This was a BIG win for the Pokes. Northern Colorado is certainly not a great basketball team, but they are decent enough to knock off some good teams. If we can go .500 in road games this season (including both non-conference and conference games) I would be very satisfied. Winning on the road in college basketball is one of the hardest things to do in sports. Very impressed with the Cowboys so far.

The lack of an ability to create off the dribble is going to be this team's achilles heel. Hankerson will go a long ways in helping solve that problem next year. Can't wait to see what that guy can do in the MWC.

I guess we would have to define what consitutes "on" from "off" nights. Is shooting 35% on or 40%, or 50%? Last season he had 19 games where he shot under 35% from behind the arc--including 10-45 in the last 7 games of the season. Don't get me wrong, I like Martinez a lot, and I think he brings a lot to the Cowboys, but sometimes I wish he wouldn't just fire away, especially when his shot isn't falling, maybe he follows the saying "if I'm on keep shooting, and if I'm off shoot until I'm on".

Wyoming seems to be playing down to their competition this year. I say that because in both the Southern game and in last nights game against UNC they were down and when they decided to turn up the defense they went on big runs to take the lead and pull away a little bit. I think their is obviously lapses in defense that need to be cleaned up. If they would play defense the whole game they would be winning by a lot more instead of struggling to have to come back in the 2nd half against sub par competition.

If Wyoming plays like that on their next road game against UC Santa Barbara they will get beat. I am hoping we can win that game but I actually think we are going to get beat. Hope I'm wrong. We should win Saturday against Cal State Bakersfield as they are terrible.

We are not losing to Santa Barbara...

I agree it is frustrating that they are not blowing teams out, but it might be better for them to be struggling and winning now than blowing teams out and thinking they are hot shit.

Also, this is off topic, but does anyone know what the players did for turkey day? They played last night and play Saturday. I can not imagine they went home for the holiday. Think coach Shyatt and the family cooked up a couple turkeys for them?

Agreed and it is the exact same problem as last year. It will become more pronounced against quality defenses with quicker rotations and longer, more athletic defenses (just like what happened to us in MWC play last year).

Still think this team isn't as committed on the defensive end as last year's either. No reason that we should be giving up 60 points to this level of competition playing at the tempo we play at (bottom 10% nationally). UNC I will give a pass on (12 points in the last minute during fouling/3 point exchange), but I don't think NCCU or Southern comes into the AA and scores 60 on last year's team.

We don't have Luster. And everyone should probably reduce their expectations for this year. If they do well, it will be a nice surprise. What I don't want, is people going ape shot when we struggle during tough conference play

Umm, no.
Plain and simple. We don't just start 5-0 realizing a top 25 team is coming into the AA in a week and reduce our expectations.

And again, we are better without luster. We can score now. It's nice!

And Grabau is filling into dishing out the assists with no turnovers. I think basketball would be better last year had it not been for Gilmore having to sit out those games.

Grabau did have 1 turnover last game, but still the ratio is 22:1
AND, he is averaging more points AND assists, and a better turnover ratio than Luster.
And Gilmore is scoring points in the bunches.
I don't get this fascination with Luster. He was a great D player but grabau is doing what he did last year PLUS some. And gilmore is just killing it.

We will better this season. Just gotta take care of business these next 2 games and then play a complete game against CU and make the country realize we are legit.
When we beat CU will the Wyonation nay-sayers finally believe we are good?

We will be good when we win all of our conference home games like we did when we were good. Until then, I'll sit back and enjoy watching these kids play and develop. I have high hopes for the season and believe we are probably better than we were last year. That being said, I think we have a ways to go before we are a top contender.

If we were better without Luster, Which we most certainly are not we would be holding teams to far fewer points. Gilmore is a great player I take nothing away from him but I think you are under estimating Lusters defense.

Gillmore and Grabau are better together offensively combined compared to Luster, but Luster was killer on defense. He created TO's! He was always stopping shooters and played that tight D everyone likes to see, without getting beat. I think Gillmore is capable of that kind of D but lacks in physicality, and Grabau is to slow to play D that way. I would say comparatively Luster /Gillmore is = to Gillmore/ Grabau. Luster got it done defensively and Gillmore and Grabau are better offensively.

Luster stopped some of the best guards in our league. I love what Gillmore and Grabau are doing offensively and Grabau has great vision with the ball and doesn't turn it over. Gillmore scores more than Luster, but having a guard that can shutdown anyone in the league is priceless. We'll see if the increase offensive power by Gillmore and Grabau can make up for Luster's D. That being said, I don't expect us to hold opponents to the same point totals as last year. I think Shyatt wants to open it up a little more which will increase the total scores by both teams. We will be great defensively but we are starting to play the game the way Shyatt wants us to play. Last year, I think Shyatt knew we didn't have offensive horses and game planned for that.

Every time Lax posts my attention drifts and my wang always says something like "hey dude! We should totally play!"
He's a needy bastard

How many players do y'all have available to play this season?

Well, I tried to figure it out myself. I guess it's 13. But I don't give a fuck anymore because it's too late to talk about what I was going to get at.
And the 350 is gone.........
