UW Football Coaching Staff

Does anyone else have as good a feeling about the coaching staff Christensen has assembled as I do. I think he has fine tuned this staff to the point that we have top coaches in every position - including the coordinators. We will see if the defensive problems have been taken care of - I believe they have. The recruits coming in are better than I have seen in a long time. That doesn't happen without top coaches/recruiters.

HCDC has gone out of his way to surround himself with people that will enhance the way he coaches. When you get that many people on the same page good things happen. I also really like that he has gotten away from hiring really young coordinators (Arroyo) and gone with former head coaches to run his offense and defense. Seemed to work like a charm with Brandon last season, and I really hope that Tormey brings the same results on the defensive side.

The great thing about having older guys as coordinators that have also been head coaches is they've been around and have tons of connections. Has already paid huge dividends in recruiting west coast etc. even the new GA is bringing quite a bit of NFL knowledge to the team.

I agree, I love what he has done with the staff. Getting Gregg Brandon as OC was great, and I think getting the defensive coaches that were Head Coaches will also pay off. The staff is just so much more experienced than it was before... then you throw in some young guys like a Dline coach who was at LSU..really? how'd you swing that?...then let's pick up a GA coming off a solid NFL career? how'd you swing that? The way I see it he is attacking the program from every angle, and that is exactly what is needed to be successful at UW.

He has done as good a job or better recruiting coaches as he has players... and I have always felt that we should attack the coaching angle (with $ if need be) and the wins will come. This also goes for Wrestling, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Swimming, Golf, etc.... find quality coaching and the program will strive (then pay to keep them (if needed) to continue the success).

If I had T Boone Pickens type of MONEY the Univ of Wyo would never lose a coach over compensation. Damn, I should have been a Natural Gas tycoon!

And to think after the 2010 season most people were calling for DC's head. lol

But I wasn't one of them. We took 2 steps forward in 2009, and 1 step back in 2010, now 2 steps forward again in 2011. I have liked almost everything he as done (wont mention the 1 thing in an attempt to avoid another argument a fellow fan) while here.

Which begs the repeated question..... what are the fans expectations this year? What would be cosidered a successful season?

For me another step in the right direction would be 9+ wins and/or 2nd place or better in the conf, and another bowl game. But if we go 6-6 with no bowl it isn't a total disaster either...just a step back (which is still way better than csu) as long as we are trending in the right direction Im happy.. but I really think we can take another step forward this year and Im looking forward to it.

You have to be realistic and no one has realistic expectations, Sure they will be happy with a 8-9 win Season anyone should be but we have no hope in a good Bowl Game unless we go undefeated and then we would still likely get the Vegas Bowl.

My Expectations for the team and coaching staff is more about improving on statistical data and less on the wins and losses. Least season was great for wins and we had a really pathetic loss but it's ok what I want to see this season is the following.

1. Tackling - Players warping up and not shoulder tackling.

2. 8 in the box on suspected run plays and stopping the runner not having them blow through us. My expectations are high, What I would love to see the defense pull off is the type of 09 New Mexico Bowl goal line stand we had that was a thing of beauty.

3. Did I say tackling?

4. Less blown pass coverage where we look like a high school backfield.

5. Tackling, I think I said that once but I'm making sure.

I would love to see a 9+ win season but if we drastically improved the defense and won 6 with bowl eligibility I think I would be happier. 8 wins and a bowl against a run team was proven as our downfall I would rather we have a better overall team even if it comes at the cost of a win or 2.

I feel ya..... I think we are on the same page, we all measure progress a little different. I think as long as we feel the program is improving we are pretty happy. And I agree if a perceived weakness doesn't improve but win do it can still be frustrating. I think the coaches are attacking every area and I think the run d and tackling will improve.

If we had another 8 win season with a trip to the NM bowl but this time with a WIN to make it 9 wins, id still consider it a good season. I think a step back would be a 6 win season w/o a bowl game. MAJOR step back would be anything below 6 wins. Id like to see a better defense as im sure most of us would esp again the run. On offense id like to see Smith run less, but from the sound of it, thats not going to happen.

In my best step forward would be 9+ wins in the regular season, with either a 1st or 2nd finish in the conference, with a bowl win
