Would be a nice makeover to the U. They probably need to bring the dorms up into the modern century.

Interesting, the architects UW hired for this project are the same architects we hired where I work to build us a 4 story medical office building.

Not sure unfinished Dorms on campus would be looked upon highly by recruits or their parents. We have a track record of not finishing anything.

From what I hear, we are in dire need of dorm updates.
But, don't you like the 1970s?

What?

Have you seen the building boom on campus over the last decade?

Pretty interesting read. I think that the dorms do need to be renovated and probably have needed renovations for at least the last 10 years if not longer. It makes you wonder if this does go through, along with the High Altitude Training Center what priority finishing the AA will get though.

This is so necessary, and long overdue. The residence halls were outdated when I was there in the late 90's, and they've more than served their useful life. There's been plans in the works for some time to renovate, some pretty heavily. But you can only put so much lipstick on a pig. The halls need to be updated.

It looks as though they're going to add 2 or 3 buildings as well. Currently there are 6 (White, Downey, Mac, Orr, Hill, and Crane), and it looks like the new layout has ten buildings. Nice to add space. And parking. Parking is always sorely lacking, especially when so many students come from so far away to attend Laramie.

My only frustration is that they just spent a bunch of cash a few year ago to do a nice renovation to Washakie. Actually made it pretty decent. Hopefully they can keep some of that and save some cash.

Regardless, I like it. And it's about time.

GO POKES!

McIntyre, Orr, Downey and White have all been renovated in the last 10 years at a price tag of around 100 million dollars. Washakie was renovated around 2002. Crane and Hill have not. They have been slated to be demo'd for some time but continually stay open because Res Life is terrible at making financial decisions.

Understand this, the university does not control Res Life and they are not bound by the same kind of financial restrictions. Since they are an auxiliary, they are able to bond all of these renovations and they still owe all of this money. The 200 millions is just the tip of the iceberg as they want the state to bail out their bonds. Once they tore down the fertile flats they had no other paid for, ie pure profit, facilities and they are hurting. This just a total BS move to get bailed out by the state after 15 years of gross mismanagement.

My kids stayed in Wyoming because of the great scholarship offers and the Hathaway. That seemed more important to them than the dorms. I didn't think the dorms were that bad, especially the ones that were renovated. But, then again, back when I was in school at NDSU, the dorms were pretty utilitarian. Community showers, etc. The dorms at WYO are pretty advance compared to that.
