UW Athletics Strategic Plan 2015-2021

The one good thing about realignments is I don't think we will ever get kicked out of the league since we helped create it. Not that is says much since the current MWC is just WAC 2.0

We won't be kicked out but we will be stuck. Every other team sees the writing on the wall and is scrambling to try to catch up. Us? Nope, just be middle of the MWC. Hell, we could lose Fresno, UNLV, SDSU, CSU, UNM, BSU, and USU and replace those with Northern Colorado, MT, MSU, NDSU, SDSU, Weber State, and NMSU. Our goal would still be "middle of the MWC".

Bingo. I'm in the process of severing my commitment, and it's a painful, but necessary, step. I will always love Wyo, but oh well.

WYO definitely needs a shake-up. I have experiences at several other Universities (from work I've done to family members attending) and I can honestly say that WYO mentality is much closer to the likes of Idaho (eerily similar) than upper end G5 members.

It is disappointing to see other schools with the drive and motivation to get there. I hate the mentality of how "hard" it is to do things in WYO. If you advertise how hard it is to recruit to WYO guess what the first thing a recruit thinks when he gets a letter from WYO? Yep, backwoods hillbilly FCS program.

I would love to see someone with enough vision to capture the uniqueness of our State and our University. Someone that could parlay that uniqueness into a brand of positive vibes instead of "oh poor us".

I'm like you; I've about had enough of this crap too.

This strategic plan illustrates three things to me:
1) an elected Board of Trustees would have had this vetted throughout the state-and it would have been rightfully panned
2) Retaining Burman comes with a huge opportunity cost for UW. We will lose another decade....The man is out of his depth and has no strategic vision-plays short field baseball to keep his job-and is barely passable at that
3) The good old boy system in this state stunts everything it touches
That. Right there. That needs to be fixed.

I agree! If Sternberg was still here, this good enough mindset would be gone along with those who think that way. Our BOT, Legislature, and Governor all think that way. There is no plan to achieve excellence in either academics, athletics, or the entire State of Wyoming.

There is an old saying out there - "If you can succeed in Laramie, you can succeed anywhere." This is true for getting in shape, learning, employment, shoveling snow, etc.

It is time to find some people in the AD department that want to succeed. We can't hand them a silver spoon. They have to figure out a way to do it.

That group needs to be flushed. All of it, and including CJC. And I am sorry to even say that about Kevin, as I really like him and always have. But let him do media / radio / etc., and let's move on. And frankly, I like Adam (as a past player) but he certainly isn't qualified - he only knows Wyoming and the "Burman-Wyoming" model. He is probably is the best of the bunch though.

UW athletics has a blend of very unqualified people and tired good 'ol boys club. All corralled by an AD that lacks any interest in doing anything outside the box - and frankly can't see outside the box anyway. Look at this group, and tell me honestly, who even comes close to the visionary go-getter UW athletics so badly needs? Who in this group is the Jack Graham? Who is really challenging themselves and pushing the bar, and who is just dead weight collecting a paycheck?

AD Department:

Tom Burman Director of Athletics
Matt Whisenant Deputy Director of Athletics
Kevin McKinney Sr. Assoc. AD, External Affairs
Julie Manning Sr. Assoc. AD, Sport Administration/SWA
Alyson Hagy Faculty Athletic Representative
Phil Wille Assoc. AD, Internal Operations

CJC:

Randy Welniak Sr. Assoc. AD, Development/Revenue Enhancement
Tim Collins Asst. AD, Development
Adam Waddell Athletic Development Officer
Samie Silbaugh Athletic Development Officer

We have got to put heat on these guys and this plan. What can we do besides cancel CJC? McGinnity? A peition? We are in big, big trouble gentlemen. BIG. We are about to lose a decade. We lost the previous two decades more or less, and thats why we are where we are.

This past school year I was part of something on campus that was for a good cause, and had to deal with faculty and administration multiple times, and I came across that mentality of how "hard" it is to do things at UW.

It is an absolute joke. I do realize that there is a lot of bureaucratic crap that has to happen to make things happen, but almost every meeting I had with the administration was more about "how we CAN'T do this or that".

There is absolutely no drive with our University and it comes from the top and the people running the place. It is reflected in athletics, student life, academics, and just everything at the university.

At one time we had a guy who wanted us to be the best land grant institution in America. He was told we could never be that, and that his idea was a joke. Enough said about the mentality of people around UW.

AND we'll never see it again....The good ole boy system is too strong and powerful to get any changes to happen at UW.
