Well hope all the effort that went into making a pretty PDF turns out to be more than just a pretty PDF.

I see very little worth - and very little outside of the box thinking. Go figure. I guess I should have expected such.

Other than moving the soccer "stadium" to old tailgate lot I guess.

This is the problem no one on these boards believes that anything near 80% of that PDF will be accomplished, If you can't convince the most hardcore of fans it's just blowing smoke.

When I see change I'll change my mind but outside of Field and Court renovations nothing has changed the budget or performance levels of the Teams using them.

1) This plan is viewed as energetic? Yikes. This is the better part of the next decade. The athletic department loooovves to talk about how aggressive they are with the deck stacked against them. It's their favorite thing to do in the world. What was the attitude that consultant report was talking about again? You know, the thing they wipe their butt with?
2) IF our goal is to be in the top HALF of the MW in funding, with our recruiting disadvantages versus a school in CA we will be LUCKY to finish in the top HALF in major sports. These are our sweet goals.

On the bright side, if there is another round of realignment and the MWC loses a few more teams, we might finally accomplish our goal of being in the top half of funding.

The one good thing about realignments is I don't think we will ever get kicked out of the league since we helped create it. Not that is says much since the current MWC is just WAC 2.0

Wow, that wants me to up my cowboy joe donation immediately. Looks like we are stuck in a rut. Absolutely nothing that is outside the box or new vision. Mediocrity abounds......

Well, I guess they answered my question from a recent thread. The question, where do we go with our facilities in case CSU ever builds their new stadium? The answer: no where.

I'm not the only one that thinks we're short sighted. The plan is to renovate the west side of the War and the press box. I guess that means that either we don't have the vision or the money for a new west side facility and that the Field House is in the way. Either way, we're going to take the cheapest route possible.

I don't see one new revenue stream in the entire plan. How do they plan on getting our budget out of the cellar if they don't have any ideas for new revenue?

The only thing I saw in the entire plan with any vision is this,

"Build a world class high altitude sports performance training center. This facility will not only be utlized
by UW student-athletes but by elite/Olympic-caliber athletes from all over the world who want to take
advantage of the benefits gained by training at altitude."

I'm sure it will be another half-assed attempt at a good idea. We'll build it on the cheap. It will be too small and won't provide the necessary tools for us to accomplish the goal.

It seems like Sternbergs report has led the athletics department to answer emphatically: MORE OF THE SAME.

Get ready for another 30 years of sucking ass.

It gets even worse. I just noticed that the solution to our problem is by increasing our athletics budget by 3 million dollars by 2021.

Doesn't he realize that by 2021 every member of the conference will probably increase their budgets by at least 10 million, putting Wyoming even further behind the eight ball.

Burman has to go. He doesn't have any answers.

I know that big programs should have $1 million each year per running sport to be among the best 'uns. That means the running programs need $6 million dollars every year.

Hey!, another double post.

So I'll just say, Yippie-yi-yo-ki-yay !!!!

It is borderline crazy there aren't more sources of revenue such as BEER.....possibly dining options etc.

That's the thing this plan lacks. It doesn't offer any new revenue streams. The plan is to increase ticket prices, further squeeze CJC, and hope and pray that our attendance increases in football and basketball.

That was my thinking, the largest source of revenue is staring everyone right in the face...alcohol. It doesn't even need to be hard liquor sales, beer sales would bring in a lot of money between football and basketball. Add to that a nice food option that is accessible on game days AND year round. Those 2 options (along with their corresponding sponsorship $$$) alone probably add a couple hundred thousand, if not million, dollars to the budget a year.

I do like the high-altitude training center idea AND throwing $1.5-2 million into the wrestling program.

This strategic plan illustrates three things to me:
1) an elected Board of Trustees would have had this vetted throughout the state-and it would have been rightfully panned
2) Retaining Burman comes with a huge opportunity cost for UW. We will lose another decade....The man is out of his depth and has no strategic vision-plays short field baseball to keep his job-and is barely passable at that
3) The good old boy system in this state stunts everything it touches

One other thing and then I'm done with Burman and his "strategic plan." I notice he's happy with the student athletes' GPA's.....however, it looks like the football team has a bit of work to do. As is usual with Burman's programs, UW football ranks #7 in the MWC in APR (955). That puts us just below average in academic performance in our conference....hold it a second, we are below average in academics too? I'd say Tom's strategic plan of being just below average across the board in everything from performance on the field of play to performance in the classroom is working out nicely. Way to go Tom!! Now let me dig out my wallet.

Here's a link to all of the conferences and their teams respective APR's.

That. Right there. That needs to be fixed.

Here is what chaps my ass: Being in the middle of the MWC was the same damn plan, well, forever. The MWC got incredibly weaker (sans bball here) and is nothing more than a half assed conference in football. We got left behind. What is our goal now? You bet. Let's be middle of the pack in a small pond. Sheesh. When BYU, TCU, and Utah left (the upper 3rd), our goal should be to replace them. Instead, we invite a bunch of wac teams and try to be in the middle of them.

I'm WYO through and through and will always cheer for our POKES. This AD makes it awful tough, however. The ONLY plan we have is to try to catch lightning in a bottle with a coaching hire and ride that for a few good seasons. That is it. There is no other plan.
